How Access Bank Planned To Cheat Me With Forex Exchange by Lincon11(m): 2:29pm On May 17, 2020
I got a tuition fee refund from my school in Ireland, the money was paid into my account about 6weeks ago.
Initially when I contacted my bank and inform them about it, they denied they haven’t received the fund, I have to contact my school and and they sent me a telex copy to show when they sent the money and when my bank received the money. Access bank admitted they’ve received the fund after I presented my evidence and show the mail I got from my school. I was told they will process the payment as soon as possible but to my surprise I got a call from Access bank saying if they should credit my account at the rate of #355 naira per euro ( omg euros o not even dollars) I rejected the offer and told them it’s absurd and I see it as wickedness for them to make me such an offer, they immediately apologized and promised to pay me at the standard rate. I immediately put another call to them instantly to know if it was someone in charge of release the funds trying to play smart on me, i asked the customer service that what is the current rate of euro to naira as of that daily, I was told it’s 426 that if I’m fortunate to receive an euro payment that day it will be on that rate. ( I placed the call on recordings)
That same day I made another call to the customer care I was told the same thing.
I later went to one of the branch in Ibadan few days after and I explained everything to them, I also told them about the negotiations one of them was trying to make with me on phone, the ibadan branch sent the headquarters a mail to do follow up and resolve the issue. I was later told that opening a domiciliary account is advised so that the bank can credit my euro dom account then I can do my exchange elsewhere, I instantly opened a domiciliary account the next day and the bank called and forwarded my details to them so they can credit my euro account and I left the bank that day.
3 days later I got an alert in my naira account and my tuition was paid at a ridiculous rate of #378 per euro, I was shock and surprised that access bank could trade their integrity for just the 500k naira gain they want to see on me after I was asked to open a domiciliary account yet you refused to credit it because they wanted to be dubious. I instantly went to the bank that day and the branch was even surprised they credit my naira account instead of the domiciliary account.
The customer service called me on 16th of May to explained what happened, they said I was supposed to be paid at the rate of 388 but unfortunately the payment was paid at the rate of 378 and there’s nothing they can do about it anymore. It is also my right for them to put a call to me before they made such payment into my account in which they didn’t do. They only apologized for not calling. And they said I just had to let it go.
I made them to understand that when I paid my tuition fee the bank charged me at their card rate which was 398 but now they don’t want to pay me at the normal rate which is 426 but claiming to pay me at cbn rate, when I checked the CBN website on their spreadsheet it was 391 on the date they credited my account. Why will a bank choose to pay their customer on just a random rate without any amendments.

Our people sha, they lose their minds at the sound of money. Let the bank know you intend to pursue this and willing to go high and above. Let them know you have been keeping records as well. Give them a chance to revisit this and do the right thing and if they dont, please feel free to take it up.

From the last conversation we had last night which lasted for 49 minutes, I was told there’s no remedy and all they can do is to apologize.
They won’t be able to pay at the expected rate because the did has been done and there’s no reversal

I notified the customer protection on the 7th of May and I was asked to make my complaint via their mobile app. I submitted my complaint on the 13th and I haven’t gotten a response up till now, and their number is not reachable

Well then, you have done your best to have them resolve amicably. Because what they have done reeks of fraud, it can't be right. Please use all available options. And use social media as well to make whichever agency that is responsible for regulating these practices, do their jobs. The "deed" has been done? So a customer doesn't have a right to remedy for the incompetence of a professional financial institution? Incompetent at best and fraudulent at worst. The bank doesn't look good either way.

OP please create a thread on Twitter for this issue and use a catchy #Hashtag, then share here... a lot of peeps here will promote the hashtag for you till that stupid bank do the needful.

From your post, they defrauded you of over #500,000... That's even enough for you to file a case.

This is glaringly a case of fraud.
