Pan- Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere on Monday said the Unrepresented Nations and People’s Organization (UNPO) is nothing but a psychological masturbation that is gathering many unhappy nations who are seeking self- determination.

The organisation’s National Publicity Secretary, Yinka Odumakin in a chat with Daily Independent said any nation seeking self- determination through the United Nations has not even started.

It will be recalled that a Second Republic senator and President-General of the Yoruba World Congress (YWC), Prof. Banji Akintoye, has stated that the Yoruba nation has been recognised as the 45th member by the UNPO.

He also said the latest development represented a very important step in the collective quest of well-meaning Yoruba people to achieve the goal of dignity and self-determination.

The UNPO, formed on 11 February, 1991 in The Hague, Netherlands, is an international membership-based organisation established to empower the voices of unrepresented and marginalised peoples worldwide and to protect their fundamental human rights, with members comprising indigenous peoples, minorities, unrecognised peoples or peoples of occupied territories.

However, speaking on whether the Yoruba can truly achieve self-determination through the UNPO, Afenifere said there is no way the United Nations can support all nations seeking independence as it always seeks to protect the interest of its permanent members.

“UNPO is no more than a psychological masturbation that is gathering many unhappy nations”.

The truth however is that United Nations is always looking for the interests of its permanent members”.

“If UN was to support all nations that want Self-determination around the world, three countries would come out of China for instance. How many people died in Sudan before UN acted?”.

” Anyone who wants Self-determination and he is going to UN has not started” the organisation said.

If yorubas are allowed self-governance, they'll finish themselves with 'wetie-wetie + kiriji 2.0'.

They are not created to rule over themselves. They thrive better when others rule over them.

Yorubas begged the British to take over during the Kiriji war as the illorins were breathing down Oyo's neck in the north while the Ekiti parapo army was bent on destroying Ibadan from the East.

After independence yorubas were given regional control of their land, again they were at each other's throat with the Awolowos (Ijebus) bent on killing off the Akintolas (Ibadan). They were pouring fuel on themselves and setting their brothers on fire. Again the military had to intervene, civil war erupted and here we are.

They are the pre-cursor of the rotten system we have today in Nigeria today.
