Yoruba Nation Becomes 45th Member Of UNPO — Akintoye by Redcrafton: 7:52pm On Apr 28, 2020
By Dapo Akinrefon

The Yoruba nation has been accepted as the 45th member of the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation, UNPO. President of the Yoruba World Congress, YWC, Banji Akintoye, said this on Tuesday, noting that the latest development represented a very important step in the collective quest of Yoruba people to achieve the goal of dignity and self-determination. UNPO, formed on February 11, 1991 in The Hague, Netherlands, is an international membership-based organisation established to empower the voices of unrepresented and marginalised peoples worldwide and to protect their fundamental human rights.

Members comprise indigenous peoples, minorities, unrecognised peoples or peoples of occupied territories. Akintoye, in a statement, noted that the Yoruba-speaking nation membership was contained in a letter addressed to him through the YWC Coordinator for Europe by her Secretary-General, Ralph Bunche. He said UNPO membership affords the Yoruba nation an opportunity to participate in advocacy training, worldwide cultural festivals, election monitoring/observation, and sports activities, among the unrepresented nations. Akintoye said: “Some former members, such as Armenia, East Timor, Estonia, Latvia, Georgia and Palau have gained full independence and have joined the United Nations, UN, as full members.

“The peoples represented within the UNPO membership are all united by one shared condition: they are denied their equitable level of representation and voice in the institutions of the countries to which they currently belong and in international governance. “As a consequence, their opportunity to participate on the national or international stage is limited and unfair, and they struggle against difficulties in their effort to realise their rights to civil and political participation and to control their own economic, social and cultural development. “In many cases, they live under pressure of the worst forms of violence and repression, such as is being perpetrated by armed herdsmen and militias, as well as by terrorist Boko Haram, against many peoples of Nigeria, including our Yoruba nation.

“This violence and repression are being adroitly and surreptitiously supported by the government of Nigeria. “In some cases, members of UNPO need serious help because they live in countries and under governments that actively resist their progress and destroy their achievements, as our Yoruba nation lives in Nigeria. “The UNPO is able to address issues that often remain hidden because UNPO has the freedom to raise issues that others cannot raise due to political or funding constraints. Today, UNPO has more than 40 member-nations.”

Nationality, Republic, Kingdom or Country are 4 different things it takes logic to understand

English Welsh Scottish and Irish are all Individual Nationalities of United kingdom, and it doesn't change their Nationality or cultural identity

there is no Nationalty called Nigeria, Nigeria is a Country and I am of Yoruba Nationality of the Country called Nigeria

hope you get it now

Why is IPod not fully represented in the group instead of fighting unjust battle and gallivanting all over the world for nothing. I advise the imposter to take advantage of this initiative!! grin shocked

Ewedu jankariwo are confused about 2023, they suddenly want to run away from Nigeria since they've realised they cannot make themselves president despite their propaganda to deceive us that they 'kingmaker' after voting the winner in just 2 elections in entire history of Nigeria. cheesy

Rotten akpu people are the ones running from pillar to post just to be in Aso Rock in 2023 .

A Yoruba man spent 8 years there already while another one is presently enjoying Ikokore and waiting to spend another 8years.

No flat..headed osu mai gala would ever occupy Aso Rock .

Lemme burst your bubble , a Yoruba man would still be in Aso Rock beyond 2023 .

If I were an Osu iPod , I would start preparing for another round of fruitless jogging in the name of Biafravd restoration come 2023.

Where's Atiku , Sarathief and the uncouth Dino today ??
Any political project supported by the lepers of the East is doomed for failure .

So sad you had to go through all this alone!

This is how it should be not just spreading hatred, bitterness, frustration and bitterness around, throwing tantrum like school children and pouring abuses on people like a manners hunch back terrorist fugitive.

He is a coward even in death. He dare not go to where General Abacha is. He would rather go and meet Ojuku to give account on how he failed to succeed from where Ojuku failed.

So sad for the late Kanu.

Nnamdi Kanu has jerked them out of fear induced lethargy.

Five years from now you will start hearing about how they first registered before the Igbos.

They have first class in history distortion. But then that is why we are here to set the records straight. cool
