Why Bald Men Should Never Visit Mozambique

Bald men are hunted down in Mozambique because of a belief that they contain gold in the head. In 2017, five men were killed. Rituals are carried on them to extract gold. After the man is killed, the head is then taken to the witch doctor to extract the gold.

The bald men are therefore forced to hide in their houses or cover their heads with caps to hide the bald and remain safe. It is a risky way of living knowing that people around you are finding you as a potential source of wealth. Africa generally have many people living below poverty line and there are some who are ready to do simply anything to improve on their financial status.


Albinos are also believed to be a source of wealth. There is a belief among some people in Tanzania, and neighboring countries, that using human body parts in rituals can bring wealth and good luck.

It has been promulgated and exploited by witch doctors and others who use such body parts as ingredients in rituals, concoctions and potion with the claim that their magic will bring prosperity to the user. People with albinism have been persecuted, killed and dismembered, and graves of albinos dug up and desecrated.
