Osinbajo presides over the National Council on Privatization meeting The National Council on Privatization (NCP) in a meeting chaired by the Vice – President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, seeks the approval for free health care delivery and improved power supply to benefit millions of Nigerians. The Vice – President while presiding over the council meeting on Tuesday approved the preparation and presentation to President Muhammadu Buhari, a draft legislative instrument to enact the Health Sector Reform Bill and associated legislation. In a tweet by Laolu Akande, the spokesman to the Vice – President, it was revealed that among issues discussed by the NCP are; the power sector and comprehensive healthcare reforms. He recalled that the critical point of “Buhari administration’s reform will ensure that several millions of Nigerians who can’t afford to pay, would receive efficient healthcare services once the new system takes off.” Members of the NCP include some ministers, the CBN Governor and the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises who doubles as the secretary of the Council.

Covid19 has taught us lesson. We have seen the loop holes in our health care delivery system hence there is need to reform and restructure our health sector; equip our hospitals etc so that the downstream to upstream will have an upgraded health services. 1 Like |

Good from Osinbajo and his team but must Nigeria only become active after a crisis? Why are we never proactive in delivering solutions? Especially those solutions that are critical to the growth and development of Nigeria? Our legislators are complaining that Nigeria may not have adequate power supply for the next 10 years if we persevere with the incompetent crooks GEJ sold us out to all in the name of power sector privatization. Why do we then allow that deplorable impasse to continue? Why not find a way to move forward since the provision of adequate power is far more important to the economy and people of Nigeria than the interest of a few corrupt allies of GEJ? I would want to hope results will be achieved this time as this is getting tiring. |

All talk and meetings but no solutions or results. Osinbanjo is a fool to allow himself to be used and abused by the North. He should forget about any presidential ambitions because like Atiku, he will always be an Ex vice-president and never the president of Nigeria. |

I do not agree with free health for everyone. It creates moral hazard If you have children you must be responsible for their financial upkeep. If the state takes over people will just have unlimited children. We should not encourage that. If there is to be free health care let each individual state pay for a |

omonnakoda: Indeed. Besides, Nigeria is a very poor nation that cannot adopt/afford a competent free Healthcare model as the British NHS system. Noteworthy that the same NHS is actually struggling to provide optimal care for all and is today considering options to improve the status quo. Free Healthcare will encourage corner-cutting and put lives at risk in an already highly corrupt environment. What would then be delivered would be substandard health care no better than what was in place previously. Subsidized Healthcare is the way to go with all individuals and families paying a decent yearly fee to access good Healthcare. Like 25k for adult individuals and 50 to 75k for families. Government should collect at source with deduction from salaries of their workers going directly into an independent Healthcare fund to be managed perhaps by private health consultants. Private employers should be mandated to do same also and collect contributions from their workers on behalf of Government. Income-based tweaks can be included to allow very poor Nigerians pay less so no one is denied treatment. This can be linked to our NIN system (national identification number) already in place. There are 216 million Nigerians and if even a quarter pay this fee, and it is utilized well, our Healthcare sector will receive decent funding to supplement government contribution with the mix hopefully producing decent Healthcare for most Nigerians. |

MelaninSkinGirl: What do you suggest he does then? Go home and twiddle his thumb because, like you, he should assume everything is hopeless and therefore he does not need to make any effort at all? When you become negative for the sake of it alone, and never proffer solutions, then you are not really living anymore. Just existing. |

The talents and loyalty of my beloved Vice President is better off in the Oduduwa Republic. Your skills are needed amidst the ones who recognize & appreciate you more, too many backward people in Nigeria won't let your efforts reflect. Anyways, kudos Sir my Amiable. |

MelaninSkinGirl: Nigeria is going nowhere if majority of us cannot accept that change begins with us. Continuing to expect individuals like Osinbajo and PMB to be solely responsible for the success or failures of our respective lives means that Nigeria host far too many who are part of the problem rather than the solution. I can understand your pessimism but the danger of letting this shape your daily thinking is that you will be unprepared for when things are about to change for the better.. |
