Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG) through its National Publicity Secretary, Yinka Odumakin, has said that the Yoruba would not be overrun in their land.
Odumakin said this in an exclusive interview with Sunday Telegraph in reaction to the invasion of the Almajirai in the South-west, South-east and South-south parts of the country after they were repatriated by the Northern governors in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, which is ravaging the country.

The 19 Northern governors recently resolved to repatriate the Almajirai to their respective home states, not minding the possible community spread of the coronavirus.

Kano Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje was the first to fire the salvo when he repatriated over 1000 Almajirai from the ‘Centre of Commerce’ to their home states, even when the Federal Government imposed a dawn to dusk curfew across the federation and banned interstate travels.

Most of them found their way to the South by hiding in trucks carrying essential food items such as grains, tomatoes and fruits.

A truck load of Almajirai, who hid in a truck carrying cattle, was recently arrested at the border between Oyo and Osun states.

“The Amotekun has its job cut out for it,” said Odumakin. “We have been talking with the governors and they are not sleeping. That is why they were able to arrest those ones and turn them back.”

He continued: “It is at two levels – the level of governance and the people being vigilant. The governors are alive to their responsibilities. That is why the Amotekun (South West Security Initiative) has its job cut out. There is no Yoruba Almajiri and nobody will say that because he is born in Saabo he is an Almajiri. Everybody has to be vigilant so that we will not be caught unawares.”

The SW has the "highest IGR" in the country and its by default the home for ALL Nigerians, needless to say the South East is "landlocked" so it makes more sense for the Almajiri to be accommodated in the land flowing with milk and honey-- South West Nigeria!
