According to The Nation Newspaper "Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has resigned. The PDP has been Nigeria’s ruling party since 1999 when the military relinquished power to civilians.

Nwodo’s resignation ahead of a crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting this afternoon is the climax of a leadership crisis rocking the party, which last Friday chose President Goodluck Jonathan as its standard bearer for April’s general election."
