And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed. Gen.19:17
Lot’s wife has had a lot investment in Sodom and Gomorrah like her husband also. She must have acquire a lot properties and goods like precious stones and costly jewelries. She must have labored to procure many beautiful dresses, shoes and bags. There comes suddenly a judgement of God upon Sodom and Gomorrah a place of great wickedness before God. Lot’s family has found grace and mercy in the sight of God and has been exempted from great calamity that was to befall the sinful cities. The only responsibility Lot’s family had to take was to escape from their lives by leaving the city. In this critical situation safety (salvation of their souls) was meant to be meant to be the priority above all other life’s ambitions, properties, certificates, goods, etc. Despite a serious warning of not looking back, Lot’s wife could not resist the emotional pain of property loss, she bowed to pressure and got perished. Many today are unwilling to leave ungodly relationships because of ‘goodies’ (sometimes maybe time, resources already committed) that they would lose. Some caved in to corrupt practices in organisations they belong due to fear of losing out ephemeral things at the expense of eternal gains. The safety of spiritual life lives should be of great priority in decisions of life we are making, it better to take the path of heavenly gains even if there are earthly benefits to forfeit. If you are ever faced with these tough choices to make, choose wisely. Remember Lot’s wife. (Luke 17:32).
