Of what benefit is stopping the almajarai practice in Kaduna state when other Norhern governors see nothing wrong with it. Apart from being a fundamental infringement on the rights of innocent kids, the practice just like shariah, the boko haram ideology and several other plots of the Northerner elders is simply to keep their population uneducated and perpetually poor so they can use them for selfish political interests. You know what? I have personally seen almajarai kids eat from the gutters and trash bins in Northeen Nigeria. So, this cannot be about religion like many of the Northern leaders (including Nassir El-Rufai) want us to believe they also passed through the same system. I should say it is an embarrassment to our many reasonable Islam brothers elsewhere that most Northern leaders in Nigeria are Muslims or Islamists. The almajarai practice has no place in a modern world where all you need is practical productive skills more than anything else. Unfortunately, like the last hypocritical ease of restriction on Covid-19 lock-down in some states of north just before the Eid, most Northern elders only love to see their region destroyed in the guise of religion.

it doesn't make sense. They would easily move with arms when borders are open so why doing it now when it is far easier when borders are open which will soon happen. The Solution to this problem is very simple.
Government should establish Almajiri schools on ground not on paper that over 100 were created but in reality, only about 5 were built e.g. Azare in Bauchi, Katsina and 3 other states.

Its going to be an investment, job opportunity, source of foreign exchange, food security, wrong indoctrination will be avoided ( bokoharam), crime rate reduced, social vices reduced, etc.

I sent these suggestions to some governors but they are not visionary leaders.

- Get a vast expanse of land.
- Conduct soil analysis to know which crop best suits the soil there.
- Build Almajiri schools with Western education sections for the poor.
- Now the children will be entitled to free education (both western and Islamic).
- The children will farm at a particular period, go for western classes, rest, farm, rest, Islamic classes etc.
- Get Govt Agriculture extension workers to keep such schools abreast with new findings, modern techniques, remedies, pest & disease control measures and at the same time supervise the schools.
- The harvest; some will be stored for feeding for the year, some for government to help export, govt will likewise tax such schools so no begger on the streets.
- Post bills containing designated bank accounts in banks or public places to those intending to support the Almajiri with any amount.
- enact law to proscribe begging and penalty for anyone giving alms on the streets.
- On graduation, an individual is already trained & conversant with farming as such can venture into it and not be a liability or searching for job.
- There should be stipends saved for the boys and should be given to them on graduation.
- The kids will not send anything home to their parents since it is the responsibility of the parents to take care of them and not the other way round.
- likewise beggers can have a home as the Almajiris for skill acquisitions and aided by the wealthy through designated banks.

WHEN IT'S TIME TO VOTE, THE ELIGIBLE ONES WILL MOVE TO POLLING UNITS TO EXERCISE THEIR FRANCHISE AND BACK TO THEIR SCHOOL.

Leaving Almajirai to move about is a time bomb and a security threat in a near distant future.

Not a time bomb brothwr, it was a time bomb 20 years back but we are now already leaving with the ills of this system. Look at the suicide bombers being used by BH in the north east and other parts of the north. All these are products of the Almijiri system where children are made to be roaming about from one place to another in a state they know no body, without food, shelter, health care coverage and shelter and you will expect them to say no to evil men and women who are willing to give them stipends to carry out their nefarious act. I stand with my governor 100% on this. Its now or never!
