Trump Minimum Wage For H-1B Visa Holders Could Reach $250,000 A Year by 2buffagain(m): 12:46am On May 27, 2020 |
Don't die on that US matter. Try to succeed where you are. The Trump administration is considering a proposal to require companies to pay foreign-born scientists and engineers in H-1B status a minimum wage of $150,000 to $250,000 or more a year, depending on the job title and location. Several sources have confirmed that individuals most opposed to immigration in the administration view the coronavirus pandemic – and a 30-day review of temporary visas contained in the April 22, 2020, presidential proclamation – as their best chance to prevent the vast majority of high-skilled foreign nationals from being allowed to work in America.https://www.forbes.com/sites/stuartanderson/2020/05/21/trump-minimum-wage-for-h-1b-visa-holders-could-reach-250000-a-year/?fbclid=IwAR0JAvap4My900Q7I6tHlOKDFPE03dRTHAvRxaP7hYEX_LW9Ik75GnV5MyQ#270fd6e81f1b 1 Like 1 Share |

If you had US plans, just redirect yourself. Trump cannot make immigration all the way illegal so now he is bent on making it impossible for companies to even consider hiring you after school. A minimum wage of $150k (up to min 250k depending on location) means you would have to be executive level in some companies in order to even get a H1B. Either stay in naija and don't waste your USD school fees, or plan for somewhere else. You don't want to place your life on limbo. 2 Likes 1 Share |

TWoods: Take into consideration that LOCATION plays a key role in which minimum number you would get matched with. E.g you might be thinking 150k USD is an easy get for a place like San Francisco, but the limit for that place could be $250k. You really cannot base all your time and money moving onwards expecting that as a starting salary. Also the people who tell you that are probably talking about "combined compensation" i.e with stocks etc, and not base salary. Then consider the fact that these companies then have to play and wait on the h1b gamble for you that has been made longer to discourage them from even thinking about getting into the trouble of hiring you. Not saying it's impossible, but you have to be on some legendary stuff. It's not a sound plan. In All these things, na marriage still sure pass if you are bent on yankee. I also have a strong feeling that Trump will win again. So it will not be wise to initiate expensive plans based on that man leaving office anytime soon. |

All those foreign companies that recruit or send employees from from India to UD e.g infosys and a few African graduates from US unis, how are they going to earn $250k per year when they are not coming in as medical doctors? It seems this policy is targeted for recruitment of only executives of top organizations. |

Those Indian Multinational companies you mentioned Infosys, TCS, Wipro alike will ask for Tax waiver from US Operation, otherwise they will threaten to withhold nearby Investment plant in US, and not to mention when Trump will see upcoming Billions of investment in jeopardize, he will negotiate (It happens from time to Time). Still you will see a lot of Indians and a few Chinese going there.(As companies will be reimbursed from tax break or any sort of Federal incentives) We wish only if we could have even one of such Indian Mega Tech Companies in this continent to enhance our skills and deployment of human resource to USA an western Europe. In the end Education pays back. salford1: |

I blame the Democrats that supported Biden for the presidential bid. US politics is just too similar to Nigerian politics. Out of all the Democrats available, how was Biden the best option? I have no doubt Trump is winning this election. 1 Like |

ChristoBam: As in. There are no strong Democrat options. And I think God just wants it like that. Partly because the left tends to allow degeneracy in their land. And also partly so everybody can start to get serious with their own country as opposed to always thinking about running away. How much insult can we take? Some of the effort we put into all these Yankee/jand matter running matter, if you put it down intelligently in our land, we will go far collectively. These things affect also the politicians in Naija who like to run out of the country for every little thing. I can feel God saying it's time to get serious with dealing with ourselves. It will never happen if we run away. 1 Like |

Unless you a physician, a salary of 150-250k entry level is almost impossible.Only physicians get this as starting salary. |

2buffagain: Well, I've stated this countless time but many people oppose me. This Trump dude will las las enact a skilled migration scheme and make the conditions to be stringent. He might create a leeway for Indians and Chinese when companies, investors, rich alumni threaten to withhold investment. There's no way he became close to Modi without influential Indians in the mix and this is the time to show how influential they are. Well, for aspiring Nigerian students, target the US because of its funding opportunities not because you want to use the education as a way to gain PR and citizenship. Use the degree from the US and flee to other countries. But make the school for US make sense not one Fisk University or something. 1 Like |

Re: Trump Minimum Wage For H-1B Visa Holders Could Reach $250,000 A Year by Gerrard59(m): 10:03am On May 30, 2020 |
mamatwiny: You forget that the vast majority of Nigerians are poor people. Where do you expect them to fork out $€£30K per annum compared to the Chinese? The closest there is Germany but the numbers are low considering the language and fears of racism - even though Chinese students don't have same fears. The United States has the vast majority of the best universities in the world, so getting a degree there for literally next to nothing and using it to work in another country is the best. To remind you, 80% of student visa requests by Nigerians to study in Canada failed. Implying that only 2 out of 10 Nigerians intending to study there get the visa approval. However, students with full funding from universities rarely get denied. To worsen it, Canadian, Australian and British universities don't fund students like the Americans. Nigerians are poor people, they should head to where they will be paid to study, get the degree and go elsewhere for a better life. 1 Like |

Gerrard59: Please post more info on getting a degree with next to nothing in USA. Fully funded courses are mostly by research and are few. Even partial scholarship are hardly gotten by Nigerians....so says yanke students on nairaland hence why their PRs go for student loan. |
Re: Trump Minimum Wage For H-1B Visa Holders Could Reach $250,000 A Year by Gerrard59(m): 12:14pm On May 30, 2020 |
mamatwiny: My post was targeted at graduate studies. Most Nigerians from Nigeria cannot afford the fees compared to the Chinese. And there are countless people who get funded to study in the US. If you are talking about students who are self-funded, then with this policy, they should try other countries. 1 Like |
