1. Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus)



Ronaldo is still deployed from the left on occasion, but in recent years he’s morphed from wide forward to central striker. The Portugal international doesn’t get as involved in the build-up play as he once did, but he remains incredibly productive in front of goal, having scored 34 times in his 57 appearances for Juventus.

The 34-year-old is also on course to set a new international goals record, with Ronaldo now just 10 behind Ali Daei’s 109 for Iran. Don’t bet against him doing that and winning the Champions League with a third club before next year’s out.

2. Robert Lewandowski



The 31-year-old remains one of the best strikers in the world right now, as he continues to demonstrate at Bayern Munich. Lewandowski has broken the 40-goal barrier in all competitions in each of the last three full seasons, and his touch, movement and link-up play are still outstanding.

He has been named the Polish Player of the Year a record six times. In 2015, The Guardian ranked him as the fifth-best footballer on the planet.

3. Kylian Mbappé



At the age of just 20, this lad has got the world at his feet and a honours list that would be the envy of the most seasoned pro. He arrived on the scene with a bang as part of a golden generation at Monaco where 27 goals in 60 games earned him a move to fellow Ligue 1 team PSG.

Mbappe starred in Russia last summer as France won the World Cup and, if anything, his lightning speed with and without the ball somewhat causes you to overlook the other aspects of his game, which are so strong. He can play anywhere across the front, scores with both feet and has incredible composure both in front of goal and when laying on chances to teammates.

If you were being critical you could say he’s only delivered consistently in France but make no doubt about it, this kid will fill the void left by Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo when they hang their boots up and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him become the most expensive player in history when he inevitably leaves PSG.
