The simple answer is not far fetched. It is presently because of NEO-COLONIALISM. The more any African Leader chooses to look inwards to developing his own deferring the interest of the West which impoverish it through so many tactics. Such leaders have been tagged and labeled and listed for the kill by western powers. Such as Thomas Sankara of blessed memories, Kwame Nkuruma and of most recent is Mummar Gaddafi of Libya.

The genesis of our problem today as a race started with the whites and Arabs coming into Africa to dislocate the social, economic and political structures in place at the time, which if allowed to evolve naturally, would have led to truly proud and independent African nations with a proud and accomplished history to look back on! The coming of the Europeans; their plundering and partitioning of Africa into forced countries, with disparate groups forced to cohabitate as ‘one nation’....this could be said to be one of the major reasons black Africans, at home and in the diaspora, have been damaged psychologically! The social dislocation and endless political squabbles and civil wars were a consequence of colonialism, and didn’t allow a peaceful and conducive atmosphere for development and progress!

Even when the colonialists left, colonialism was repackaged and morphed into neo-colonialism! This influenced how the west related with sub-Saharan Africa and Africans in diaspora on a social, economic and political level!

You should thank your lucky stars for colonialism! But for it, i wouldn’t have had to suffer the indignity of having to call you a compatriot!
