This rant is inspired by a tweet I came across a few days ago. Africafactszone is what it's called. By the name of the Twitter handle you should have gathered what it is all about. They do post legit stuff on a regular basis though, I'd give them that.

Back on track. I came across a tweet that normally wouldn't rouse any feeling from me. I have come across several of such tweets in many forms on different platforms. Normally, I'd just read and move along but I had to pause on this particular one.

Besides the over simplified narrative, what else got your attention?

"They taught Europeans how to bathe.." ?

I mean, I expect people to pause and consider this statement. How much is it based on reality? What about the Roman empire that had bath houses long before the invasion of the Moors in southern Spain?

Africans just swallowed the narrative that feels good to them.

You can go to the Twitter handle to read more tweets from many other Africans swallowing the narrative of said tweet and not really questioning anything.

Now you can consider my reaction to this tweet as being "pc" or "as$ licking", but in what way exactly does this help the black man discover himself?

Whether or not the Moors were as dark as the Sudanese or had broad noses is not really my concern as it is to many Africans, but a lot of black people who revel in ancient history of faraway established societies just do so for the thrill of having "black" attached.

They don't really care if said narrative is accurate neither do they care about details. A click bait heading would do the trick.
