Derek Chauvin's wife says she's devastated by George Floyd's death, will divorce husband

Chauvin was charged with murder and manslaughter on Friday.

The wife of accused former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has said she will divorce her husband, and said she is devastated by George Floyd's death.

Kellie Chauvin issued a statement via Sekula Law Offices on Friday evening.

"This evening, I spoke with Kellie Chauvin and her family. She is devastated by Mr. Floyd’s death and her utmost sympathy lies with his family, with his loved ones and with everyone who is grieving this tragedy. She has filed for dissolution of her marriage to Derek Chauvin.

"While Ms. Chauvin has no children from her current marriage, she respectfully requests that her children, her elder parents, and her extended family be given safety and privacy during this difficult time."

Chauvin was charged on Friday with 3rd degree murder and 2nd degree manslaughter in the death of Floyd on Monday, after video showed the 44-year-old placing his knee on Floyd's neck for just under 9 minutes.

Chauvin's house in Oakdale has been the scene of protests this week. The Chauvins also have a home in the Windermere area of Orlando.

The Pioneer Press ran a feature on Kellie Chauvin in 2018, in which it noted that she met Derek Chauvin while working at Hennepin County Medical Center.

She said he came in with a suspect and after noticing her, came back later to ask her out.

Women's words (especially wife) are very subtle, manipulative, and piercing. Their subtle words can program a man like a programmed robot to where ever it is commanded to go or do.
