Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture has told Nigerians to expect 11,000 megawatts of electricity by 2023 following the agreement the Nigerian government reached with German firm Siemens.

He said the German firm will be growing the present 3,400 megawatts to 7,000MW by the end of next year. Lai Mohammed added that they will then grow the megawatts to 1,000 megawatts by the end of 2023 (phase 2) and 25,000 megawatts in the third phase.

The minister said;
“Following an agreement with German company Siemens in July 2019 to boost power supply in Nigeria, the stage is set for the perennial power problem to become a thing of the past.
“Under the three-phase agreement, Nigerians will enjoy 7,000 megawatts of reliable power supply by the end of 2021 (phase 1), 11,000 megawatts by the end of 2023 (phase 2) and 25,000 megawatts in the third phase.

“To put things in perspective, Nigeria’s current power generation capacity is more than 13,000 megawatts, but only an average of 3,400 megawatts reliably reach consumers. In essence, the current amount of power that reaches consumers will more than double by the end of next year.

“In addition, this will create thousands of jobs and will leapfrog the country into the next level of industrial and social development.”

To start with, Nigeria needs to break up.

The current generation of 3400MW for a population of 200m people is less than 30% of what Minnesota's 5.5 million people use.
Caseless:
yes! The US had to break up for minnesota to achieve that.
Let me school you. If Nigeria breaks up, the trillions of naira being made from crude oil yearly and shared among 36 states, would now be used by only 6 States in the Niger Delta Republic, giving them a lot of money for power infrastructure, etc. And the other States will start using their own natural resources too because there'd be no more ND oil to rely on.

Nigeria's budget for 200m people is less than the education budget for New Yorl City.

Obasanjo the grand father of wailers spent 16 billion dollars on power.

His Royal highness the Clueless one of Otueke sold all the distribution companies to Bankers, Famers, Lawyers, Business men and career politicians who know nothing about power. They don't even have enough money to invest in smart metres for their customers.

If Nigeria is like China, those two would have been donated to Bill Gate for clinical trial of Coronavirus vaccine!!!

Pessimistic people tongue

As far as i know this administration is tested and trusted , they follow promise with action!

Major projects promised for decades are being worked on now, we see the seriousness to change the power sector after they invited Siemens nd finalized things with them.

I just pray they manage to finish on time because the next administration is not guaranteed to perform because its the Nigerian way to abandon projects because everyone want to be the one to award the contract for kick backs!

I trust Siemens but why did it take so long. Abi Dem don chop money tire ?

I hope this happens for Nigerians. That in 2020 we don't have uninterrupted electricity is a big shame
