You may have read about Uwa, the Nigerian student, a victim of sexual harassment who went to a Church to read and was raped and killed. An unfortunate and condemnable incident.

Unfortunately, there are many young people who face sexual harassment everywhere – church, school, home and even the workplace.

In our experience, lots of sexual harassment cases have popped up in the workplace and still, the perpetrators suffer little or no consequence for their dirty actions.

What I would like to do today, is to highlight some solutions for those who may know someone who was or is a victim of sexual harassment in the workplace.

I decided not to focus on how to avoid being harassed, because rape is never the fault of the victim, it is always the fault of the perpetrator. There is absolutely no excuse for rape! Avoid relating with rape apologists as well.

So, how to handle a sexual harassment issues in the workplace;

Whether you are a man or a woman, you can be sexually harassed by a colleague or boss or even an external work partner. How do you handle it?

Do not take a Shower – Yes, you should not take a shower until you have been examined by a Doctor and they have carried out all necessary tests and evaluation to prove your case. When you take a shower, you destroy all evidence that could have helped prove your case. As soon as it happens, go to the hospital and get your proof. Do not change your clothes or undergarments.

Document Everything – What happened? Date? Time? Details of the clothes you had on? Location? All these details are necessary for when you make an official report. Providing these details will help make your story credible and will also give the authorities the ammunition they need to punish the perpetrator.

Report to the Authorities – Authorities in this case, refer not only to the Police, but also, to those in charge at your workplace. Provide all necessary details and avoid contact with the perpetrator. Contact a lawyer and tell him/her everything. Rely on the authorities to get your perpetrator off the streets, so s/he cannot hurt another person.

Seek out a Counsellor – I do not mean a Pastor or someone who will preach to you. Get a licensed practicing psychologist, who will help you battle that phase of depression and victim shaming. You will need it in order to move on with your life and trust people again.

Give Yourself Pep Talks – Talk to yourself and remind yourself that what happened was not your fault. When sexual harassment occurs, the victim often blames herself or himself. This is wrong. Blame the perpetrator, not yourself. Constantly remind yourself that rape is about power, not sex. Rapists use rape to exert their power and dominance. It is NOT your fault.

If you live in a country where the authorities are corrupt and you do not have enough money to follow through on a rape case, contact an NGO that is focused on sexual harassment. They will help you and take up your case so that you can get justice.

Do not allow anyone to shame you into silence by acting as though you did something wrong. You did nothing wrong!

Please people especially ladies should learn the phycology of a rapist, How to identify potential one lusting after u and in case u were attacked where are the sensitive part of the body u can go for in just a second that can help u escape the scene . stop waiting until u r raped, u may not have the opportunity to tell the tail.
