COMMUNITY POLICING TAKES OFF IN LAGOS, AS GOVERNOR @jidesanwoolu INAUGURATES OPERATIONS TEAMS … Gov: ‘Initiative’ll Address Shortcomings Of Existing Policing Model’ … New Approach To Shift Focus To Proactive Law Enforcement, Says IGP Lagos State has taken an audacious step towards improving security in all communities across the State, with the inauguration of State Community Policing Advisory Committee (SCPAC) and its operations arm, State Community Policing Committee (SCPC). Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday, inaugurated members of the two committees at a ceremony held at the State House in Alausa, pointing out that the event marked a turning point in the Government’s deliberate effort to re-strategise and rethink the security architecture using Community Policing Initiative as proposed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Muhammed Abubakar Adamu. @ElkanaBala @PoliceNG The security initiative, the Governor said, is long overdue, adding that the reform is being implemented with the objective to address inadequacies of the current policing model, which, he said, had failed to engage members of local communities and neighbourhoods in knowledge sharing and intelligence gathering that could help in nipping crimes in the bud. SCPAC, which is co-chaired by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu, and chairman of Council of Obas and Chiefs in Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, will be the custodian of the initiative and it is to maintain highest level of oversight on community policing in the State. SCPAC, on the other hand, will be responsible for managing and coordinating the State-level operations of the community policing programme, and it will, among other functions, help identify security threats in communities and work with the police and the Community Police Officers (CPOs) in evolving appropriate strategies for addressing them. https://twitter.com/gboyegaakosile/status/1268212490619564033?s=19 5 Likes

Nonsense! Everything in this country is politics, nepotism and corruption. Governors initially agreed they would use npower beneficiaries and corpers, after meeting with the service chiefs, at a NEC meeting last year. Politics came into play and they turned it all upside-down. 72 years old Mama in my area says she was chosen to be a community police! ---------------------Modified------------------ Mr Gawat Jubril(Jags) said it wasn't agreed by the Governors. It was only considered by the Governors. 34 Likes 3 Shares |

Community policing is the best strategy for Nigeria. It would curb crime seriously, that's if they stop taking bribe ooo The police men would know the names of the people in their community, or their families at least. He/She would know those with a potential to commit crime. Crime should be prevented . We shouldn't wait till it happens before we do something about it. 12 Likes 2 Shares |
