Ben has a knack for learning. He graduated with a first class from his local university and wanted to pursue a record breaking career. By the time he was done with his youth service in 2016, online courses featured in Udemy, Coursera and Khan Academy were becoming increasingly popular.

Ben took every learning chance he had to engage in taking online courses. If it was available, Ben was taking it. Soon enough, he had hundreds of certifications from the issuing institutions. The challenge however, was that Ben did not have a specific plan for his career, so he took online courses that he ended up not using.

Ben got a job soon after he finished his youth service, but, as time changed, he realized that most if not all of the certifications from his online courses were useless to him, as he began mapping out a plan for his career path.

A lot of people are often carried away by the idea of learning as much as they can, and getting certifications from foreign institutions via online courses, that they soon become obsessed with stacking up these certifications.

But, one thing to remember is that not all learning opportunities or online courses are meant for you. You should have a career plan for yourself and you should only take online courses that fit your plan and help increase your chances of getting to where you want to be.

Say, for instance, Mr. A is a Computer Science graduate who has plans of working in the field. All the online courses he takes should be related to solidifying his career as a Computer Scientist and not in fields where he has no interest, so he does not end up wasting his time.

Same applies to everyone out there who has interest in learning or taking online courses. Ask the following questions;

What is your career path?

What are your interests?

Where do you see yourself in five years?

How does this online course help you get to your desired career destination?

This will help you make the right decisions on which online course to take.

Focus is really expensive sha.... All these free online courses are just too enticing... One'd always feel like enrolling
