Anambra monarch to banish women for opposing him

The traditional ruler of Umunya in the Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra state,Chris Onyekwuluje, has excommunicated no fewer than 24 women of his community for allegedly opposing him.

He threatened to banish them from the community if they continued their action, to serve as a deterrent to other trouble makers in the community.

The monarch who announced this at a press conference in his palace expressed displeasure over the action of some women from Ezi-Umunya village allegedly sponsored by some miscreants to instigate violence in the area.

Some women in the community had on Wednesday took to streets to protest against the traditional ruler for allegedly harassing and arresting their husbands and sons over trump up allegations.

Piqued by their action, the monarch pronounced that thevwomen involved in the protest and other allegations would thenceforth, cease to socialise or do business with the rest of the community members.

According to him, "I have done nothing wrong rather I have always stood for peace. My intervention in various disputes is the reason we have not recorded any casualty in the course of this fracas.

"I will continue to protect my people and our tradition as the custodian of our land. No person has the right to undermine my authority or our people.

"For this reason, all the women involved in this protest are hereby excommunicated from all the activities in our community.

"I didn't say you should fight them should they come up with any problem in any form. Just call my attention to any untoward action from them and see what will happen", he said.

The traditional ruler, however said the women may risk banishment from the community if they further cause trouble.
