You can Learn to be lead by the Holy Spirit whether you have been a Christian . The first requirement is spiritual hunger
You may be able to fake spiritually at church, but you can't fool God. He knows if you're hungry or not. The first step to flowing with the Holy Spirit is spiritual hunger. There has to be yearning for more of God deep down in your spirit man, regardless of whether He ever does a miracle or not. If you don't hunger after the things of God when the things of God come you won't recognize them. It's a spiritual exercise to develop your inward man. Hunger cause you to go to the furthest point to get satisfied.

How long do you have to hunger like that before God will answer you ? Until it's a proven hunger. If you're to go far in the realm of the Spirit , you need to start now. Develop a hunger and thirst in your spirit. Not tomorrow - today.
Those who ", hunger and thirst after righteousness will be filled". To go on to the next glory you have to be filled first. God does the filling. He satisfies your longing. But He always leaves room for you to hunger after something more.

How do we hunger for the things of God?

We can hunger for the things of God by:

1. Longing for it

Hunger for God is the longing to encounter Him, to be with Him, and to be filled with His Spirit.

2. Pray for it

Even the desire to seek God is a gift from Him (John 6:44).

When we pray for spiritual hunger, we are praying in accordance with God’s will. He wants us to be hungry for Him. (Matt 5:6). It is a prayer God loves to answer.

3. ACT ON IT

“Taste and see that the Lord is good.” Ps 34:8
With the little sense of need that you have, pursue God. Like me, you will learn that the more you encounter His presence, the more you will hunger for more.

And most amazing of all, you will discover that no matter how much you long for God, and how much you hunger for Him, His desire for you is greater.
