Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo olu today presented the staff of office to the 15th Oniru of oniru land, HRM Oba Abdul-wasiu omognbolahan Lawal (Abisogun II)

Due the Corona virus epidemic, the new king was ushered in with less fanfare in order to comply with safety rules. In attendance at the occasion were deputy governor of Lagos State, Mr Obafemi Hamzat and the wife of his royal majesty and other Chiefs of Iru land.

In his words, the governor urged all sons and daughters of Iruland to rally round the new king and join hands with him for the progress of Iruland, and Lagos in general.

Continuing, the governor stated "As an accomplished man with an extensive public service record, I have no doubt that his reign will be a progressive one. The ascension of HRM, Oba Lawal to the throne, marks the start of the next phase of the journey of Iruland into growth, progress and greater development."

The governor also commended the kingmakers and elders of Iruland as well as the ruling houses for the peace and mutual understanding that have characterised the process that led to the installation of the new monarch. According to him, "This is a remarkable feat, worthy of commendation and emulation. "

Fuji star Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1 de ultimate) also performed virtually at the occasion.

na only culture? or how some bastard Yoruba's are selling off their inheritance lands to Igbo. if Igbo sell lands to non Igbo I won't complain but you won't see these people sell their land out yet Yoruba's are selling their land out

I urge yorubas on this forum to educate their people, Yorubas in diaspora which land do you want them to buy if you sell all your lands to non Yorubas?

Yoruba ronu oooo

You see bro, you cannot eat your cake and have it. Lagos is priding itself as a cosmopolitan city; which indeed it is trying to follow in the likes of London, New York etc as per multicultural inhabitation though not measuring up in terms of facilities ; but we would get there. This is the no-man’s land naming that has been misconstrued. It is rather an “All man’s Land” even though the original inhabitants have never been Igbo but rather Yoruba/Yoruba-affiliated tribes.

But here is the dilemma; As an aspiring cosmopolitan city grows, it becomes less traditional and more urbanized/capitalist and has to get rid of certain sentiments to achieve the heights of cosmopolitanism. Everyone that can afford it is buying up land in Lagos including Igbos and what you buy, you own!

Now the Yoruba traditional institutions would continue to be in Lagos no doubt, but as more people try to turn Lagos to a New York, all the claims to land become less important rather tax contributions give you the power to remain; Now I mean State Government tax and not Omoniile extortions!

So in essence, if you have to truly become a real cosmopolitan power house, you have to let go of too much emphasis on the traditional over the legal/forward-looking venture. Anyone who buys land and pays tax in New York is an owner of New York and is from New York including his offspring; same with Lagos.

Leave the traditional to Ile Ife, Ibadan etc (where people would pay good money to go and experience the REAL TRADITIONS OF THE SOUTHWEST) and enjoy the cosmopolitan aspirations of Lagos! You just cannot take it away from people who are stakeholders there; Igbo not!

About the not being able to buy land in the East, I tell you it’s a full-fledged lie meant as propaganda. In the East it’s money for hand, land for ground, simple! You don’t even need to see any Baale or Oba! It’s just that most of you see it as “red mud, erosion-ridden area” and would not have the spirit of venture to go here, settle and compete with those who are making real dough there. That’s what differentiates the Igbo; venture spirit. Also consider that Lagos is a black silt flood-ridden mangrove swamp and foreigners have sandfilled it to current capacity; most of those foreigners from the “red-mud ridden East and the red-roof ridden West”. So don’t complain if you have not even tried to buy land there in the East. I encourage you to go to the East and buy land, you would find that it’s fairer and quicker than the scams in Lagos for real estate and as long as you have your cash, you deal. No omoniile sef !

Also the Federal Government is not investing there and so everything is compete and succeed rather than receiving “Owo mi da” and mama dash me!

So again, Lagos is an All man’s land with a traditional Yoruba history which is hoping to become a real cosmopolitan city but counteracting the paths to achieve those tenets of cosmopolitanism by a few alter-mentalities.

There’s no heir in Yoruba royalty. It is rotated amongst the descendants of the first children of the first Oba.

Oh Really
