I don't agree with you. Even UK has admitted that they could have done better. As for the US I don't need to tell you that govt initial disbelief did much to affect their handling of it. Only Germany amongst the giant of Europe I can raise my thumps up for. They did everything right otherwise it would have been a big disaster for their over 80m population.
Less population is just a small factor, efficient crisis management paid off for NZ, and Australia too. Check out their testing and how early they accelerated same you will see my point. UK was very low with testing at the beginning that is why they have the highest deaths rate in Europe today. But unlike Germany.
Accelerated testing at the onset paid off for countries that have gotten a handle around this contagion. No short cut. If you are poor with crisis management skills even if your population is under 1m you would reap disaster. Sweden is a good example. Some citizens are right sending death threats to their Covid-19 team leader for a disastrous outing with this pandemic, the cases are rising again there right now. Population? Just 10m less than Lagos but they have tolled over 2,200 deaths! Meanwhile their neighbours Denmark, Finland, Norway register far fewer fatalities.
