Woman, daughter And 6 Others Killed Overnight In Jos by maimalari: 7:42pm On Jan 24, 2011 |
January 24, 2011 07:17PM print email S Eight persons were confirmed dead Monday morning as the cycle of nocturnal attacks continued in Jos, the Plateau State capital and its environs. Sunday night’s attacks took place in Farin Lamba in Riyom local government area, and in Fan, Barkin Ladi local government area, about 25 kilometres south of Jos. The attackers, who were said to have used both guns and machetes, killed a woman and her daughter who are the only females among the eight dead victims. Several others sustained various degrees of injuries as they attempted to flee from their homes that were ambushed by the invaders. Last night’s attacks on the two villages were the fifth in two weeks, with the death toll adding up to 34 within the period. This has caused renewed tension as demonstrations were staged Monday in Vom, Jos south local government area, by women who are calling for the removal of men of the Special Military Task Force STF from their midst. Athink, its okay to say that place no get government again. Abi 50 or 100 more Nigerians like you and I need to be killed like guinea fowl for 'so called' leaders to be jolted into serious action whether dialogue or force. I find it hard to believe a "Special" Task Force in addition to MOPOL and others have been deployed on their own nation's soil to "Specially" remedy this "Specific" problem, yet it continues months after (This is not Israel & Palestine is it?). Or is it spirits that bullet used to pass through that are slaughtering human beings like goat there? |

Igbos close shops in Borno From TIMOTHY OLA, Maiduguri Tuesday, January 25, 2011 Photo: Sun News Publishing More Stories on This Section The Igbos in Borno State have shut down their businesses over what they call selective killings and robbing of their members in the state. They maintained that all shops, businesses and other economic sectors operated by their members would remain shut until government addressed the lingering killings in the state. Addressing journalists yesterday in Maiduguri, President General of the Igbo Welfare Association (IWA), Chief Nnaka Okereke said the security situation in Borno was worrisome, adding that it had defied all efforts of security agencies. “In recent weeks, it has taken a frightening dimension in that armed gangs are selectively robbing and killing Igbos. Armed robberies and killings in the past three weeks have been selectively directed at Igbos and Igbo businesses,” he declared, noting that no fewer than five persons from the south-eastern part of the country had been murdered in cold blood. Okereke alleged that the last killing of Obinna, 29 and his 16-year-old brother at Dala Alanderi was carried out after separating the target from “others favoured by religion and tribe of the attackers.” He said no fewer than 12 business premises belonging to Igbos had been attacked and robbed at gunpoint within the same period. He hinted that the leadership of the Igbos had been managing the situation but felt it was time to let the public know the situation in Borno, adding that they feared the security situation in the state could degenerate to the February 18, 2006 crisis, which, he said, the Igbos were yet to receive assistance or compensation from the government. He said the corpses of the victims of the last week killings were still left in the morgue at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) because the leadership of the Igbos were scared of possible reprisal attacks by the families of the deceased in their states whenever their corpses were conveyed home, urging the Borno State government to contact the governments of the deceased home states to make adequate arrangement to forestall break down of law and order. “We are appealing to the government of Borno State to liaise with the state governments of those affected persons to avert a national crisis as a result of these unprovoked killings of innocent and helpless citizens going about their legitimate businesses in their fatherland,” he appealed. The president-general said the Igbos in Borno would need assurances from the state government and the people of Borno to know if they could continue to live, hence, they were prepared to move out of the state soon. All shops, business outfits as well as commercial vehicles in the state did not open. Equally, operators of luxury buses had also downed tools indefinitely in support of the course. Meanwhile, another soldier was also feared dead in Biu, south of Maiduguri on Sunday night as gunmen on motorcycles attacked some soldiers on duty. Daily Sun gathered from army personnel in Biu that two of the soldiers sustained serious injuries. http://sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2011/jan/25/national-25-01-2011-012.htm |

Those Igbos in the article better not run. They better stand their ground. Why haven't they avenged the deaths of those Igbos were killed? Why are they complaining? I want to see action. |

asha 80: Would the military not be deployed if the igbos "defended" themselves? |
Re: Woman,daughter And 6 Others Killed Overnight In Jos by asha80(m): 12:00am On Jan 25, 2011 |
jason123: whether the military is deployed or not now is immaterial.the issue is if what happened above is true then they should'shoot the fools and ask questions later' since the government anyway is not coming to their rescue now. |
Re: Woman,daughter And 6 Others Killed Overnight In Jos by jason123: 12:03am On Jan 25, 2011 |
asha 80: True, I support it but do you not think the jos situation would arise. That is the military might be deployed and they would take sides with the "pure" northerners (as they usually do) which would lead to more massacar of Nigerians over there. I think the best option is for them to come home. What do you think? |
Re: Woman,daughter And 6 Others Killed Overnight In Jos by asha80(m): 12:05am On Jan 25, 2011 |
jason123: the problem is that a lot of these igbos in the north do not have homes in the east so it is likely they will become refugges if they come back. |

The hausa soldiers are very unprofessional in their conduct , little wonder murtala mohammed wasted more than 3 battalions of troops I'm his futile efforts to capture onitsha during the 60s, yet he couldn't capture the city. The ibos should realise the difference between a riot and a religous war. I will not be surprised if this killings are carried out by unprofessional soldiers too. The best way out is to find other busnesses to diversify to possibly relocate to friendlier states and cities. |

The fact is that igbos had invested so much their. How would you tell somebody who have invested his life savings(millions) to just leave like that so that all those mallam would own them. It is not easy as you see it. It is not just a relocation matter. Some people own Hotels, Petrol stations, Industries, companies etc. It is unfair to allow them to come back and farm. Many of them would rather die than come back and start all over again. Majority of them are not educated so, the only asset they've got is that of the physical (their shops etc). They dont have hope of employment and a former CEO would not accept menial jobs. It is not acceptable. FYI, many of the god fathers and extremist of northern extraction are sponsoring most of the crises. The probably would want to disrupt this election coz they know they are already loosing ground and the possible implications. Let the issue be addressed but, we would not give them war of which they seek until after the election. Lets cease the power from top first. |

Either those we call leaders don't see pictures like this or they are immune to them. I don't want to believe that any leader would actually want such to happen to his own people. Why the lethargic reaction from our presidency? I doubt even Tunisia's ousted president would let such happen, yet Nigeria claims to have a democracy. Jonathan, I call on you to stop bragging about steady fuel price you achieved months ago and concentrate on the immediate, critical problems of your nation. Your military, it is said, has been forced to fire upon protesting women citizens and you have not taken any firm decision or given a statement since then on the matter, not even on the facebook you like to talk about. You are the president of Nigeria, the number one citizen, (as someone pointed out GCON, CON among other big titles), look out for your younger siblings, make us feel safe. If you had done this since you entered office you wouldn't be owing favors to evil men, because we the citizenry would give you total support just like when you entered office.
