The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) has said that no names were dropped in the trial of kidnapping kingpin, Bala Hamisu, also known as Wadume.

In a statement by his media aide, Dr Umar Gwandu on Friday, Malami said the office merely severed the charges in view of the unavailability of the soldiers who in their own case need to be released by the military authorities in view of the fact that they were perhaps undergoing military processes before their release.

“The interest of justice requires and legitimately allowed for segmenting the case in the interest of speedy trial,” he said. “It is in the interest of justice to accord speedy trial to the accused persons that are readily available to stand trial as against delaying at the expense of other co-accused persons who in the peculiarity of this case are not available for immediate arraignment.

“It is a common practice that absence of a co-accused will not constitute impediment to the progress of a case. Those available are entitled to fair trial and have their case determined within a reasonable time as a matter of Constitutional rights. More so, looking at the fact that the available accused persons are not to be held responsible for the unavailability of the co-accused persons.

“The Office of the Attorney-Genral of the Federation and Minister of Justice has taken steps to procure the availability of the co-accused and shall have them arraigned immediately upon procuring their availability by the military authorities.”

Why is this govt too daft and sluggish in information management. It's been in d news for a week even reported by major news tabloid dat names of d soldiers were dropped but it took d office of d Attorney General this length of time to come up with this belated refutal. Even with this press statement it is yet to clarify whether d Army men are to be independently trialed by d Army authority thru court martial or whether they will be joining in d normal civil court processes later. The fact dat they dwelt on availability and non availability shows there is more to this that meets d eyes.

Lies..this shameful incident happened months ago why are the soldiers not still available for trial?
How long will it take the military authorities to conclude a simple court martial?
You can only deceive the gullible.

You're very right. Their information management is very lax. And when they respond, you get shocked by the rant and rave they call response. May God help Nigeria to survive the three more years under Buhari.

The indices are becoming grimmer and gloomier by the day.

Malami- corrupt, ineffective and inefficient. He is justifying the absence of key accused persons from trial for reason of military training. Is the Military now above the Nigerian Constitution?

The family of those who lost loved ones should institute legal proceedings against Malami without delay.

It is very difficult to live in a country where some people do certain bad things and nothing happen to them, while you do far less and you get dealt with.

A country cannot truly survive/endure when its mechanism for giving justice is very flawed.
Nigeria do not give justice, and don't even attempt to do so.

The thing is, all these cases of obvious bias by government will live for a very long time but the sure thing is, no matter how long it takes, Nigeria is going to pay for it.

A man, and a indeed a country cannot continue to offend people and dream to live a better life in the future
