In September 2019, a San Diego base photographer with the name ‘Gaurav Agarwal’ uploaded an image on Flickr which broke many phones and causing loss of photos and other data.

The story of the phone crashing wallpaper, however, went wild making headlines recently for crashing some Android phones as
many Android devices don’t support the format of the said image.

The photographer behind the photo has however apologised in a report credited to Gadget 360. He said:

“I felt sympathetic to people who may have lost their data and photographs due to the crash,” – Gaurav Agrawal

The San Diego-based photographer, Agrawal uploaded the photograph not knowing it will go viral and will crash a large number of smartphone across the world. Android devices from Google and Samsung were amongst the most impacted by the photograph that was used as a wallpaper by many users. The wallpaper doesn’t impact on iPhones.

“It was alarming to say the least,” Agrawal said in his conversation.

Agrawal acquired the said image using a Nikon DSLR camera and uploaded on his Flickr profile on September 16, 2019. However, he made use of Adobe Lightroom to convert image format to ProPhotoRGB before sharing online. The problem being ProPhotoRGB isn’t supported by many Android devices.

The image impressed Flickr users initially attracting comments until last month when a Twitter user alerted people to not use the image as wallpaper that it may cause crashes. Those that applied the photograph as wallpaper have however reported crashes.
