PDP Presidential Primaries History And Facts Of Zoning Without Micro-zoning by Throwback: 1:34pm On Jun 14, 2020 |
UNCONFIRMED BUT ALMOST CERTAINLY ACCURATE PDP PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARIES https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/soc.culture.nigeria/e3p6UBNplJI 1998 PDP Presidential Primaries The above 1998 Jos Convention of the PDP for the 1999 Presidential election, shows that aspirants were drawn from the 3 Southern geopolitical zones, showing there was no micro-zoning, or gifting of the party ticket to any region or tribe, besides the fact that it was exclusively zoned to the South, while the North watched from the sidelines having wielded power for about 20yrs uninterrupted (1st Oct 1979 to 29th May 1999). 2003 PDP Presidential Primaries This was contested by Obasanjo from the SouthWest as incumbent president. There was no zoning as both Southerners and Northerners contested. Alex Ekwueme from SouthEast contested, Abubakar Rimi from NorthWest contested, and Barnabas Gemade from NorthCentral contested. Obasanjo: 2642 votes, 75% Ekwueme: 611 votes, 17% Rimi: 159 votes Gemade: 17 votes https://reliefweb.int/report/nigeria/nigeria-obasanjo-wins-party-nomination-second-term 2006 PDP Presidential Primaries The PDP had both Southerners and Northerners contest it 2006 Presidential primaries, where Rochas Okorocha from SouthEast was a distant 2nd to the winner, Umaru Musa Yar'Adua from the NorthWest. 2011 & 2015 PDP Presidential Primaries Same played out in 2011 PDP primaries, when Jonathan from SouthSouth defeated Atiku from NorthEast. Also Jonathan as incumbent ran unopposed in 2014. 2019 PDP Presidential Primaries Same micro-zoning was not allowed for the PDP Presidential primaries that was exclusively zoned to the North for the 2019 election. Atiku & Dankwambo (NorthEast), Saraki & David Mark (NorthCentral), and Tambuwal & Kwankwaso & Markafi & Turaki & Lamido (NorthWest) were the major aspirants, with Atiku as the winner. For the South, the most recent instance of zoning was for the PDP National Chairmanship in 2017. Candidates from the SW and SS contested, and the SS was triumphant. Micro-zoning to the SW was not allowed, despite that it was only the SW that was yet to produce the PDP National chairmanship prior to that 2017 PDP convention. For the 2023 election, it is either PDP zones its President ticket to a half of the country (the whole South) without micro-zoning, like it was in 1999 (South) or 2019 (North); or the ticket is not zoned at all, allowing for an all comers affair like it was in 2003, 2006 and 2011. 1 Like |

izzou: There is no if, since all the options have been considered as restated below. For the 2023 election, it is either PDP zones its President ticket to a half of the country (the whole South) without micro-zoning, like it was in 1999 (South) or 2019 (North); or the ticket is not zoned at all, allowing for an all comers affair like it was in 2003, 2006 and 2011. |

izzou: No need apologizing, as the only answer to your "if" question is that maybe PDP will consider the option of not having a Presidential candidate at all for 2023, so no need for Presidential primaries. |

If we are wise we will stop talking about PDP and APC as Nigerians. These guys has only brought the citizens pains and confusion. If we are doing something wrong we’ll always get the same wrong result. Can we just think outside the box scan through all other growing parties and see what they have to offer? 1 Like |

Obviously the igbos don't want the presidency, they want Biafra and will give them Biafra by 23rd century, the SS just have their time with Jonathan, so it is the turn of South West, we will teacher igbos how to rule eventually when we decide to hand over Biafra to them, igbos are still in training 1 Like |

The 1998 Primaries shows that Yorubas were not gifted the PDP ticket. More so, the 2003 Primaries show that even the North contested against a sitting PDP President that was Yoruba. In all the PDP Primaries, there was no allowance for micro-zoning to a single geopolitical region. 1 Like |
