Qatar have launched the third tournament-ready stadium for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and dedicated it to frontline workers battling the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Education City stadium, a k a. a ‘Diamond in the Desert’, has a capacity of 40,000, and is set to host matches until the quarterfinal stage of the tournament.

Gianni Infantino, president of world soccer body FIFA, looked forward to a time when matches no longer had to be played without spectators due to the crisis.
