Assorted Questions About Farming by rsimcihtrhd: 5:55am On Jun 22, 2020
I am an American. I have some questions about agriculture in Nigeria/West Africa.

1. There is a wet season and a dry season, right? Do subsistence farmers only grow crops during the wet season? Do they typically grow only one crop during that time? The length of the wet season varies depending on the part of the country, right? But given that most staple crops can grow in 3-4 months, would there be time for 2 crops within the wet season?

2. What do poor subsistence farmers do when there is not a crop being grown (ex: during the dry season)?

3. Do most subsistence farmers just rely on the rains for irrigation?

4. If you had access to irrigation and fertilizer, how many crops could you grow in a year (speaking of staples such as maize, cassava, rice, soybeans, etc). Would it be possible to grow one crop after another, back to back, indefinitely, or would you have to leave the land fallow at times?

5. How is cassava transported?

Thank you.

Most of them have handy jobs and jobs in the transport sector in the dry season.

Some plant vegetables if close to water sources.
