Lockdown had no effect because we didnt allow it to work. All the countries that imposed lockdowns and enforced it are seeing their numbers go down dramatically e.g Asia and Europe. The countries that refused to enforce lockdowns or were too eager to reopen before it was safe are seeing their numbers increase steadily e.g US, Brazil, Nigeria.
Lockdown only slows the spread and buys time to take action and figure out what comes next aka strategy. Those countries strengthened their testing, tracing and treating capabilities. Nigeria did neither sad.

NCDC just heard that airports are doing test run now the cases are rising.

Hope you know that NCDC doesn't generate the samples

im impress with kano
fariq what's the secret grin

These numbers can be misleading. Do you know if the 4 positive cases for Kano were from 4 samples?
That means 100%.

So the number of tests to the number that returned positive is what will give the real picture of the prevalence of Covid-19 in the location where the testing was carried out.

You don see the matter now,

from monday to wednesday, number no go high, but thurday to sunday, wen dem hear say Govt wan open something, nah so numbers go fly like bird, wey go down low, only to soar high later

BAZ001:
With this numbers!
Abeg help us beg govt not to think of lock down again.
1st index case we beg dem make dem quick lock every where, no allow intl flight coming in , dem no hear.
Okay later them do total lockdown for 2wks and another 2weeks, and gradual easing.
why ease lockdown so early ?
Now numbers keep increasing while lagosians don't even care anymore.
You now want to lock down again.
Confused government!!!
They can go and stop airports from opening again because of this number, NCDC well done.
Once you hear say dem wan open church numbers go increase.
Na airport now Numbers don dey go up

A properly implemented lockdown halts the spread. It simple common sense....if people are not interacting with others, they cant spread the disease, those who have it will surface, get cured or die. if properly implemented after 2 months the virus is gone.

It is not a coincidence that numbers started rising once US and Nigeria relaxed the lockdowns, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

People making excuses up and down because they were not prepared to take the small pain to avoid a bigger pain, but the pain you will take, so since we have decided to avoid small pain, then bigger pain it is!

People disregard safety measures because:

1. They believe the figures are falsified and the virus is not prevalent.
2. They are yet to see any one in their neighborhood get infected.
3. They are totally unaware of the havoc the virus caused in Brazil which has a very similar demographic.

Brazil has about 1.4m confirmed cases, I hate to sound like a pessimist but with things going at this pace with no bars in place, then we may be heading to that region.

4. They fail to realize that although the virus is not a death sentence to a lot, it can be very lethal to a few individuals the lot care about.

No cure or vaccine in sight, yet cases keep increasing geometrically, people dying, masses wanting their lives pre covid-19 era back in full swing, A government very eager to give it back to them ASAP.

My father has a chronic cough and he's in his 70's, his chances of survival if he comes in contact with the virus would be low.

Take home:

We tested about 2000 individuals, out of which about 750 returned positive, if we test 2m individuals how many would return positive?

Naija which way?

My brother; this is where 9ja is heading to; in case you don't know...

As reckless as this country is been driven

You can only control people for so long. I doubt any country truly has the capacity to enforce and sustain a strict and complete 2 months lockdown especially when you aren't China grin. The social and economic strain would be too much. Nigerians hardly comply with anything so it's not that strange our own broke after a week. Honestly unless you take massive day 1 response from the get go the virus will just have to take its course. But what is annoying here is people denying the existence of the virus

Therein lies your problem. Only a man who is alive can worry about social or economic strains. Of what benefit is economic and social strains now to Ajimobi in his grave or to his family that has lost a dad? Research the pandemic of 1918...same thing happenned, people never learn. And by the way italy, Spain, Uk etc implemented a lockdown for more than 2 months...guess what? their numbers are down dramatically. The bottom line is this, you either have a disciplined people who care about the next man or you have a quasi dictatorship but countries where citizens tend to be self centered will not contain this pandemic. Interestingly, i read a tweet where someone said the mistake they made in the US was they kept saying you can pass on the virus to someone else even if you have no symptoms. He said such a message will never work with Americans because they only care about themselves....same with Nigerians.

2 months of isolation, hunger, economic hardship, one can recover from, there is no recovery from death........death is final!!
