The Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church International, popularly known as Winners’ Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, says Lagos and Ogun states have been infected with anti-church virus hence the decision to open markets and keep churches shut.

The cleric said this while delivering a sermon on Sunday.

Oyedepo said it was ironic that people in marketplaces no longer observe social distancing or hygiene and remain open but the church is being suppressed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.


He argued that refusing to open the church was in contravention of the freedom of worship which is enshrined in the constitution.

The cleric added, “No handwashing, no nothing, everyone is in the market running over each other every day of the week and there is no outbreak from the market but there is now outbreak, perceived outbreak from the church. Prophets are God’s voices to the nations. Caution!

“Now, freedom of worship is no longer a constitutional right but now determined by some individuals. It is a hard thing to kick against the priest. This is no longer coronavirus in Lagos and Ogun. It is now anti-church virus clean and clear.”


Oyedepo said in the last one week, 10 people testified to have been healed of the disease.

The cleric argued that the church which had the power to heal people remained closed.

it pissed me off Wen churches tend to make this whole stuff all about the government fighting churches
If churches reopen, mosques will reopen, clubs and d rest will reopen
if we believe dat our God can protect us in church against d virus, wat of those in d mosque and clubs who will protect them (because according to our belief, our God won't be d one to protect dem)

it's just patience, we rather support d government in prayers, this whole shutdown will not linger for too long. So if we don't go to church for sometime hell will break loose

Jesus Christ never commanded His followers to build for Him church buildings or sanctuaries. He instead urged them to obey his commandments and live righteous lives(feed the poor, cloth the naked, care for the sick, visit those in prison).
Rather, so-called believers have chosen instead to believe the doctrines and traditiona of men, leaving Jesus Christ and His commandments behind.

My hope is that as a result of this virus, people will begin to live as Christ urged and churches will be forced to close their doors for good due to reduced attendance.

Did you even bother reading my post at all?

Your churches are not mentioned in the bible(Jesus Christ never asked His followers to build anything) so how can i find scripture that says they should be shut?

What are you going to ask me next? For scripture that mentions the pope as God's representative on earth?

Market has nothing to do with dogmatism!
But religionists may begin arguing instead of following orders due to their beliefs which has failed woefully in preventing the spread of Covid19.
I think that's why the authorities are against religious gatherings!
