A lecturer in the state-owned Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, Professor C. E Ukun has allegedly died of Coronavirus.

Campus Gist reliably gathered that the university don died of the coronavirus disease complications on Tuesday, June 30.

He was said to have been admitted at the isolation centre unit of Irrua Specialist Hospital in Edo some days ago, before his demise.

A source at the hospital where he was treated, said the lecturer could not survive the disease owing to underlying medical conditions, including difficulty in breathing.

The source, was, however silent on the said medical conditions.
But a university source, who confirmed the development, told Campus Gist that the lecturer was always falling sick.

“Yes, it's true (that the lecturer is dead). He had some disease alongside COVID-19 hence he couldn't have survived owing to his advanced age too,” the source said.

Until his death, Professor Ukun was a lecturer in the department of Philosophy, faculty of Arts. He was also a former Dean of the faculty.

The University management was yet to issue any formal statement as at the time of filing this report. Spokesman for the institution could not be reached for comment.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has so far announced 986 cases of COVID-19 in Edo, with 35 deaths recorded.

As of Monday, June 29, Nigeria recorded 25,133 cases of the disease. While 9,402 patients have recovered, 573 people have died.
