NUPENG Gives FG Two-week Ultimatum Over Bad Roads by Amotolongbo(f): 9:31am On Jul 03, 2020

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers has given the Federal Government a two-week ultimatum to rehabilitate the bad roads across the country.

NUPENG also asked the government to immediately address the issue of multiple roadblocks and extortions from all security agents or the union might be forced to embark “on a serious industrial action to drive home our case.”

The National President, Prince Williams Akporeha, at the end of the union’s virtual National Executive Council meeting on Thursday, said, “We wish to urgently draw the attention of the Federal Government to the harrowing experiences of the owners of petroleum trucks in the country.

“The only means of moving petroleum products across the country is by roads, using the trucks. We can confidently tell you that this means of distribution is presently endangered and require urgent Federal Government stimulus intervention fund to prevent it from total collapse.”

According to him, most of the nation’s highways are becoming death traps for the union’s members, most especially Calabar-Itu-Uyo, Port-Harcourt-Aba, Mokwa-Jebba-Kaduna, Port-Harcourt-Owerri, Warri-Benin-Auchi-Okene-Lokoja stretch of the country.

He said, “We are shocked at the lackadaisical attitude of local, states and federal governments to the issues of addressing the degenerating state of Nigeria roads before the coming of the current raining season despite all our warnings for them to make necessary construction, repairs and maintenance of all our roads, which are now in a parlous state and becoming practically impassable.

“The issue of bad roads is further compounded by the various security agencies who now set up multiple checkpoints on these deplorable roads to further exploit and extort money from motorists. Petroleum tanker drivers are the worst hit by the exploitative tendencies of these unscrupulous security agencies.

“The brazen extortion of our members, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic was really disconcerting and unfortunate.”

The union said it could no longer continue to fold its hands and watch its members, who toil day and night, to keep suffering on the bad roads and in the hands of security agents.

Nigeria's problems plenty pass the world population. NUPENG pls do whatever pleases you cos majority of our roads in Nigeria are not motorable nor even good for trekking. Only herdsmen and their cattle are enjoying it. I don't want to shout beyond this

They should start from Abia State or Owerri.

Enugu State get luck say Sullivan Chime don arrange her own roads before he left office...if not.... Enugu would have been competing with Abia and Owerri via state wey get bad roads pass

These are one of the reasons we continue to experience bad roads in the country. Two weeks cannot deliver a very good standard road that can stand the test if time angry

On bad road a minister under dis buhari administration I think fashola came out to justify the reason for not repairing our roads... He said and I qoute... Bad roads don't cause accidents because you can't speed on a road that's bad...

CAN SOMETHING GOOD EVER COME OUT FROM OUR GOVT WITHOUT POLITICISING IT.

THATS WHY WE HAVE SENATES AND HOUSE OF REPS TO DISCUSS AND ENSURE ALL THIS ISSUES ARE ATTENDED TOO.

WITH ALL THE WEALTH THIS COUNTRY HAS, WE ARE SUPOOSED TO BE FAR FAR BETTER THAN DISCUSSING BAD ROADS ISSUES.
EVEM FERMA NA DISSASTER, THEY WOULD TELL U NO FUNDS,

MINISTERS WILL ANNOUNCE AUDIO CONTRACTS WITHOUT EXECUTION, AND EVEN IF THEY DID, CONTRACTORS WOULD DO A BAD JOB AND TOLD US HE USED 70% OF FUNDS GIVEN TO HIM FOR SETTLEMENT.

WHO. DID WE OFFEND IS THIS COUNTRY?
NOTHING SEEMS WORKING.
I THINK ITS BETTER WE BREAK THIS COUNTRY INTO 6 AND START FROM THERE.

ALL ROADS ARE DEATH TRAPS, EVEN IN LAGOS SAME THING.
POLICE FULL EVERYWHERE TO EXTORT. YOU TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE BAD PORTIONS.

FROM LAGOS BY PASS TO IJEBU ODE .ORE THAN 8 CHECKPOINTS. FROM IJEBU ODE TO IBADAN MORE THAN 12 CHECKPOINTS.
WHY?

Govt collected 60 billion naira alone from stamp duty, not custom levies o, or various vat o, etc.

Nigeria govt uses our money to pay politicians allowances. Na why una need speak up to change the system of govt becus no one can fix Nigeria with the current system of govt.
