Five Cases Of COVID-19 Confirmed In Cross River State by Newsbreakers: 2:53pm On Jul 03, 2020
According to NAN, the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH, has confirmed five positive coronavirus cases in the state.

Prof. Ikpeme Ikpeme, UCTH's Chief Medical Director, revealed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday in Calabar.

Prof Ikpeme advised all hospital staff to follow the government's guidelines on hand washing and respiratory hygiene.

The statement reads “The management of UCTH wishes to inform her staff and patients that COVID-19 tests performed on five samples from our hospital returned positive.

The Chief Medical Doctor also confirmed that some of the hospital staff tested positive for the virus.

He said, “Two of these samples came from our medical staff. These staff members have since made tremendous progress along the path of recovery and are doing well.

“The tests were performed using the PCR technique at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control accredited laboratory located at Alex Ekwueme University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki. Management has duly informed the Cross River Government and other agencies of government," he continued.

“We wish to reassure our staff and patients that a positive COVID-19 test is neither a death sentence nor a reason for any fear or stigmatization,” Ikpeme said in the memo.

He reiterated the hospital's commitment to informing, guiding and protecting the residents of the community. He also urged the people to cooperate with the government as they all seek an end to the pandemic.

“As an institution of government, UCTH will continue to provide information and guidance and take steps to protect our staff, patients, and the community we serve," he said.

He concluded, “We, therefore, urge everyone to take personal responsibility and cooperate with the government and institutions in the ongoing fight against COVID-19, especially with the relaxation of the lockdown which can potentially translate into an increase in the number of cases.

It's only the governor that has the right to announce covid19 case in his state.

I fear that the scenario in Kogi state is bound to repeat itself in Cross Rivers
