IGBOGBO BAYEKU LCDA TO COLLECTIVELY TACKLE FLOODING SEEKS COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Lagos state being a coastal state is less than a meter above sea level and that translates to her propensity to flooding. Many communities within the state have made frantic efforts to fix this menace as it poses a serious threat to the livelihood of her citizens. Igbogbo Bayeku LCDA in its critical effort towards attending to this desperate situation held a parliamentary meeting on the 2nd of July, 2020. The meeting was attended by the Executive Chairman, Bldr. Oluseesan Daini, The Legislators And The Executive Members of the LCDA with a resolve to solving the problem of flooding within the LCDA.

The Chairman gave an update on previously taken measures vis-a-vis the visitation and inspection of the aftermath of the flood by the Ministry of Environment, Ministry Works, and Hi-Tech Construction Company. He also highlighted the intervention of Public Works as well as his meeting with HRH Abdul Semiu Orimadegun Kasali (Adeboruwa Of Igbogbo Kingdom) and Mr Tunji Bello (Honourable Commissioner for Environment) on July 1st, 2020 on the likely causes and possible solutions to the problem of flooding.

The attendees at the meeting thus came to a unanimous decision on the necessity for a Sensitization and Environmental Enlightenment stakeholders meeting across Board - which should be held with each political office holder within the Ward consisting of Counsellors and Executives. The meeting is expected to be held with Stakeholders and Representatives of the Traditional Institutions on proffering a possible long-lasting solution to the flooding peril within the LCDA. In this custom, it will consciously place special emphasis on maintaining all COVID-19 and social distancing protocols.

The intended all-inclusive meeting shall be convened on the ground of creating a Committee within each Ward, in a bid to establish a thorough fact-finding exercise by enabling them to identify possible reasons for flooding within their immediate environment, the problem of buildings on wetlands, as well as the blockage of drainages and canals. The Committee is expected to revert to the LCDA accordingly with a report on its proceedings within a week, the report will thereafter be forwarded to appropriate quarters for prompt and appropriate action.

The Chairman, Entire Executive Members and Legislators of Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA sympathises with businesses and individuals affected negatively by the flood. The Council also promises to deliver a swift and effective response in tackling the flooding menace.

On this note, the Chairman implores all members of the community to allow due process to assert its relevance towards preventing further problems in the future as well as addressing current ones.
