What is considered poverty benchmark by the UN is1 dollar per day but Nigeria needs to be excluded since one cannot feed with 10 dollars in a day.I personally bought this food at "Chicken Republic restaurant" Abacha Road Port Harcourt.

but it seems like you already ate some of it.

that chicken looks good though small portion size.

Is Chicken Republic a high-end restaurant or something? That there looks more like leftover lipsrsealed
Re: 7 Dollar Meal In Naija by ekubear1: 11:12pm On Feb 02, 2011
This thread has made me hungry  lipsrsealed

7 bucks seems expensive for what you got, though?

One thing that has always struck me about Nigeria. . . having the same lifestyle there as in the West isn't any cheaper. If anything, it is more expensive.
Re: 7 Dollar Meal In Naija by EzeUche2(m): 11:16pm On Feb 02, 2011
Now that was a waste of money. I have gotten so accustomed to American food, that I search for it whenever I go to Nigeria and I always pay exorbitant prices for my food!

Just a little chunk from the chicken.

Poster.

People like you bring so much mis information to Nigerians.

Can you swear that is a full portion of the meal or left over after you probably have eaten the chips or the rice portion of it.

Come on. Be objective, grow up and say the right things all the time. Dont be a child.
Re: 7 Dollar Meal In Naija by Kobojunkie: 11:25pm On Feb 02, 2011
@Poster, there's got to be cheaper alternatives out there because $7 is too much for the average individual.
Re: 7 Dollar Meal In Naija by MaJBlige(f): 11:27pm On Feb 02, 2011
In as much as his story is not absolutely correct. $10 dollar mean - 1400 Naira is high end. You can feed well with $4-$5 dollar if you know where to go.

Chicken republic serves chicken and u dont need to eat chicken at all times.
Re: 7 Dollar Meal In Naija by dayokanu(m): 11:33pm On Feb 02, 2011
How many Nigerians can afford to eat a $7 meal.

with Less than $1 you can get Bread & beans or eba and Ponmo

I pay much less than that myself for food. Unless I'm eating out. My typical meal, I probably spend $3 or 4 on (averaging over eating out and homecooked.)

It is of no use denying the obvious.Tomorrow I will update you with receipts from 2 other fast foods.A piece of Chicken lap alone goes for 3.5 to 4 dollars in every fast food in Nigeria. That little portion of salad goes for 1.2 to 2 Dollar while the bottled water goes for 0.7 to 1.5 Dollar.Tell me anywhere in Port Harcourt I can get it cheaper.Buka not inclusive.

$3 per mouth is still way too expensive for the majority in Nigeria.

Do people eat garri only, then? I'm trying to figure out:
1) What your typical meal is
2) How much it costs

Hrm, how much does a pound of beef (or the equivalent amount of beef) cost in Nigeria?

And say one pound of chicken?

Trying to compare the prices to how much I spend at the grocery store for the same goods.
