IgbereTV reports that the Imo State Executive Council led by Governor Hope Uzodinma on Thursday directed the Commissioner for Education, Professor B. T. O. Ikegwuoha, to query the Vice Chancellor, Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri, Professor Adaobi Obasi, over the institution’s failure to pay February and March salaries.

It was stated that in spite of subventions released to it, including revenue from fees, Obasi failed to pay salaries, directing that the company responsible for the collections, Tennesy, should stop collecting fees for IMSU.

Also, the council decided to revoke lands Illegally acquired by individuals and organisation in the state.

Declan Emelumba, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, who spoke to reporters after the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Owerri said that the council resolved and directed that in view of the discrepancies uncovered in land acquisition, the Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Physical Planning, Enyinnaya Onuegbu, should revoke all such illegally acquired lands from who acquired them.

Also discissed during the meeting was the need to engage all stakeholders in taking critical decisions on the state’s education sector.

The council revealed that it will engage stakeholders including parents, wards and proprietors of private schools on safe reopening of schools in compliance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines.

The council commended Governor Uzodinma for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) he signed with Julius Berger Nigeria PLC to rehabilitate the Owerri-Orlu and Owerri-Okigwe roads.

It also commended Uzodinma’s administration for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Federal Secretariat, Aladinma Housing Internal, Lake Nwaebere-Umuchima Street, and Chukwuma Nwaoha roads, among others.

The council commended the administration for demolishing the tunnel at the House of Assembly on Port Harcourt Road Junction, which has been a threat to life and property of Imo people, describing it as “a right step in the right direction.”

On the fight against coronavirus, it was stated that the laboratory in the state had capacity to test over 50 samples of COVID-19 daily.

Oga Supreme court gov., pls querry him immediately, and if unsatisfied with his reply, replace him. This VC may even have placed these workers salaries in a fixed deposit account so he can cash out some interest. There are some persons who should never go near leadership cos they will misuse it with insensitivity to the plight of those they lead.

Prof Adaobi, Prof Awuzie, Gov Okorocha - three actors on top of university education in Imo state for 8 years, but could not understand the importance of the advantages of closeness to government subsidized multi faculty university in their Imo West senatorial district.

Replace these names with Prof Viola Onwuliris and Emeka Ihedioha in 4 years, new university would have been in Mbaise.

Viola Onwuliri was instrumental to conversion of AIFCE to full university when she was mere Minister of State in Education at Abuja, though Buhari government reversed the conversion.


Info has it that politicians from Imo West even want to convert another college to university very close to Owerri. That’s how the cookie is crumbling for most people in Imo West.
