GOV EMMANUEL: BORN FOR A TIME LIKE THIS

Whenever I make an attempt to recount the achievements of the present governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, all that reflect on my mind are the series of scenarios that occured before and after the birth of Christ, and more significantly, the rationale behind his birth.

Some schools of thought as well as Bible Scholars have opined that the sole reason why Christ was sent into the world was for the purpose of redeeming mankind from total destruction. Some have also posited that without his birth, there wouldn't have been any possibility for the existence of mankind. Well! I've gathered the fact that behind every birth, there's always a reason.

Though Governor Emmanuel's message of birth wasn't inscribed in a book like the birth of Christ, but from his modus vivendi, the ground behind his birth could be ascertained. As Emmanuel, he shares some of the traits of God's beloved son, Emmanuel.

Sometime in 2011 after the Independence day anniversary, the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio during one of the events at the Ibom Hall grounds had maintained that he saw in a vision how Akwa Ibom after him was greater. And in 2012, he also revealed another dream, where a man was governor of the State after him, and how God wanted to use him to save the State in the days of catastrophe.

I won't doubt if anyone would insist that no body had understood what Akpabio's dreams truly meant. As this time, we had thought that the governor of the State after Akpabio would be anyone amongst the political gladiators who were already part of the system and had desperately eyed the seat.

Again, another factor that had caused doubt in Akpabio's vision was the fact that Akpabio even as governor was a known comedian; he could do or say everything only to give a comic relief at all times. So anyone who would take his words serious was only basking in an euphoria of dashing hopes. But the truth remains that his vision was real.

In 2014, Akpabio had seen the vision more clearly. At all times, he had boldly stated that an angel appeared to him in the dream. The angel made it known that the governor of Akwa Ibom State after him will come from Awa in Onna Local Government Area, and his name will be Emmanuel. At this point, Akpabio was left with no option than to key into that vision, knowing if he should do otherwise, he would fail and the said Emmanuel was Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel. Akpabio has always been afraid of failing, so at that time, he did all that it took to still be relevant.

Mr. Udom Emmanuel took over as governor of Akwa Ibom at a time where the tempest was high. The economy of the Nation, Nigeria was in shambles and in so many States, many workers were laid off in a bid to abbreviate spending. The case of Akwa Ibom State would have been disastrous if Emmanuel was not in the center. The debt status of the State had climbed to an unattainable level, and allocation was dropped by 75%.

In the midst of recession, Akwa Ibom State government did not lay off any worker, and their entitlement was paid at due time. Many life touching projects were executed, completed and commissioned, the governor was not found wanting in anyway. Just like Christ, the Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State was performing great miracles.

Out of nothing, the governor brought out the State from recession. The high price of groceries was reduced to the minimal through his intense agricultural revolutionary programme. Indeed when other states of the federation were experiencing hardship and hunger, Akwa Ibom State was experiencing a season of plentiful.

With visible infrastructural development across the 31 Local Government Areas of the State, Ibom Airline with four aircrafts as of today, Governor Emmanuel has demonstrated that governance is about vision, passion, commitment and focus.

The coronavrus pandemic did not meet Akwa Ibom State unprepared as all secondary health care facilities were already upgraded and equipped with up-to-date equipment. With the provision of several ventilators in all isolation centers of the State, proper training of medical practitioners, etc, the fight against Covid-19 has been a successful one in the State.

To compliment his groovy health revolution in the State, the governor has set-up an ultra modern Infectious Disease Control Center, for testing of Covid-19 related cases as well as other diseases is carried out without delay. The Infectious Disease center which was commisioned six weeks after its ground breaking has been acknowledged by the NCDC and WHO as the best in Nigeria and West African region respectively. This is a landmark achievement of the Udom Emmanuel-led administration.

With the huge successes recorded in the fight against the dreaded corona virus disease in the State, one could possibly deduce that Governor Emmanuel is a Manager of crisis. Indeed, he was born for a time like this.
