Seeking to please people

Life is a fragile commodity that has an expiry date. Many people spend a great part of their lives trying to do what others think is right or what others think is best for them. It is not a sin to listen to counsel. But it is wrong to follow every counsel by an individual.
Most People like to be obeyed. And anytime you try to go out of their way of seeing things and do what you think is best for you, you begin to hear statements like" that boy/girl has changed oh. He is now proud". Well, let your heart not be troubled. Most of those statements are said to weaken your emotions; To make you feel bad and see yourself as a backslider or as someone who has derailed. Such statements are not said out of true love for you. They are just angry because you disobeyed them.

No man has total knowledge. True knowledge is in the word of God. Experience and age are not always the best teachers according to job 32:9
"It is not only the old who are wise, not only the aged who understand what is right."

However, you should take note that Godly counsel can only come from a pure soul; a person with a renewed mind.
You should only listen to people that are speaking out of genuine love for you, no matter their age, position or title.
Do not conform to people's perspective about life because you don't want to offend them. No man can/ should tell you how to live your life. Even God has his limits when dealing with men. God will never force you to do anything.
Anybody that does not respect your opinion as a human being, but always wants to enforce his own idea or perspective on you, Is not a worthy mentor.

Not all good advice is right for you. Accept responsibility for your actions. Take advice, but make sure it is from a genuine conscience. Not from those that want to control your actions.
