The United Kingdom has bowed to US pressure and approved the phased removal of Chinese telecoms giant Huawei from its 5G network despite warnings of retaliation from Beijing.

Johnson angered Trump and upset some members of his own Conservative party by allowing the Chinese 5G leader to help roll out the UK's speedy new data network in January.

The UK was then completing its departure from the European Union and looking to establish strong ties with powerful Asian economies that could fulfil Johnson's vision of a "global Britain".

But the Trump administration told the UK government that its decision imperilled intelligence sharing and could even result in the relocation of some US fighter jets from England.

Washington believes the private Chinese company could either spy for Beijing or shut down rival countries' 5G networks in times of war.

Huawei has always denied this and pointed to 20 years of cooperation with British security agencies that checked on the safety of its existing 3G and 4G networks.

The British review was triggered by new US sanctions in May that blocked Huawei's access to US chips and semiconductors at the heart of 5G networks.

The restriction raised the possibility of Huawei having to switch from trusted US suppliers to alternatives whose safety could not be guaranteed by UK security agencies.

And just so we are clear, every equipment manufacturers have backdoors in their equipments, it is just how technology works, when issues come that need engineers from the OEM that has provided the equipment, they get approval from the client to use the backdoor to make their repairs or fix any bugs.... Huawei is no exception.

Another fact, Huawei equipments are used on Europe a lot, and they go through all sorts of test from experts before they are used on their infrastructure. The issue here is not about security cos if it comes down to it, equipment from the US will fail that test cos many of them have been found wanting, including almighty Cisco equipments.

Like I said in my previous post, this is a straight up economic war between the US and China, leave that sorry ass story about security breaches, the US is doing exactly what it fears China will do to others if they dominate new emerging technology. Imagine a government having to ban its companies from doing business with another foreign company on the basis of politics and not any proven case of security breach.

We have seen the US threaten other countries, including her so-called allies from doing business with Iran to the point the EU tried on vane to create an alternative system that never materialised to anything. 5G Technology is open source with 3gpp as the custodian of that technology and the US companies are chief contributors to that technology.

I believe you must be talking about 5G deployments and indigenous US 5G companies, which US does not have much of because, unlike China that the government can bank-roll a deployment, US is capitalist and profit based.

As far as 5G development is concern US is in the fore front, however labor cost have made off-shoring manufacturing a more attractive and profitable alternatives hence these components come from abroad.

The fact that my iPhone is imported from China does not mean China is ahead in iPhone technology. Economy of scale make it more logical to import it from China rather than manufacturing it locally in the US.

There were debates in the US around 2017 for the need for the US government to step in and deploy 5G using her huge financial power, just like is obtainable in communist China and it was decided against because they felt it will negate capitalism.

However, it means the US government have options to turn this around if they so choose, so I don’t see the lack of deployment as a disadvantage, it is a choice the US took, so that businesses and consumers can drive the technological deployments.

Before Covid-19, ventilators were mainly imported from China, but US invoked the Defense Authorization Act and ordered GE to start mass production, which they started doing. Which means, the technology was there all along, also the development was there....they were not just doing implementation because it makes no business sense to do so locally.

The US is not in front of any 5G technology. Huawei alone has about 15 percent of the 5G patents, when you combine patents from other Chinese OEMs like ZTE and the likes China alone has about 30 percent of patents on 5G....go and do your research and stop arguing blindly. Huawei is a dominant player in Telecommunications, there is no known US company that does the kind of stuff Huawei does at that scale, please name one.....the far distant competitors are Nokia and Ericsson and they are like 2 years behind the technology that Huawei is bringing in 5G.....please talk factd.
