What exactly is hand hygiene and why is it important to our health?

Hand hygiene is the deliberate act and practice of keeping your hands clean using soap, clean water and alcohol-based sanitizer. Yes you have to be deliberate when it comes to hand hygiene because there are lots of things that could come up in the journey of a day that are most likely to make you forget to wash your hands regularly, but being deliberate about it makes you create time out of a busy schedule to attend to your hands.

It has become a practice among for some people to eat without washing their hands, skipping proper hand-washing after a visit to the rest room and not washing after coming in contact with dirt. While it has become a common practice for others to wash their hands regularly regardless of whether they do something or not.

By the reason of profession, some people tend to wash their hands more often than others, a medical practitioner is more likely to wash his/her hands regularly than a receptionist in an office.
