Being relative new to mobile app development. Please, I will like experts to share their view on which is better to go with between using firebase or connecting to mysql as the database for either small or large scale mobile project in the below aspects (1) if the app does not connect to an existing database or third party platform to share the same data (2) if there is a database for the app already ( assuming I am connecting the app to a web site to sharing the same data:something like how Facebook app). Thank you

Use Mysql if the site already has an existing Msql database (currently running), but if not u can kick off with any. They will all serve u well. But Mysql has been really good in handling data for large scale projects.
Don't be carried away by all this Firebase matter if u don't know how to work with it well.

Mysql is a database and firebase is BaaS. Meaning firebase has already made backend. Creating api to communicate with your app is very fast and easy on firebase unlike mysql which you still need a backend to pass data between your app and database. So for small projects, pick firebase and for large projects, pick mysql. Reason is, you own your data when you use your own backend and database

Though both Firebase and MySQL are being used as a backend for different web and mobile application development but MySQL is a rational open-source system, and Firebase is a closed-source backend platform which helps in the quick building of apps. Also, Firebase is a NoSQL database which could be suitable if you are making real-time applications with Google Cloud Platform. Yes, Google has its ownership. Moreover, Firebase is usually written among the best backend as service providers, and you can get more details about BaaS, different BaaS providers and Firebase from here https://blog.back4app.com/backend-as-a-service-baas/. Yes, you would have to scroll down and would find the Firebase as the third option under the heading "Backend as a service companies".

On the other hand, if you want a rational database based on the concept of tables for your quick operations, then MySQL should be your preference. You can also get more details about the comparison among MySQL and Firebase from here https://androidapps-developer-blogs.medium.com/difference-between-mysql-and-firebase-difference-between-sql-and-nosql-e1ce538f9e17. However, if we can talk about the cons of MySQL then it is not much flexible regarding the design and its schema is also challenging as compared to a flexible schema of Firebase. Hopefully, these details would assist you in making the right decision.
