An engine would not run even for a minute, if the moving parts were allowed to make or run metal to metal contacts. Meaning that, oil serves two purposes. The first purpose is to lubricant the bearing surface while the other is to cool the bearings by absorbing the heat generated by friction. The heat generated due to the tremendous amount of friction would melt the shell bearings leading to destruction of the engine. To prevent this, ensure that the flow of oil to the moving parts is well accomplished by the engines internal lubricating System
