The antichrist is Satan. He is also known as the devil. Satan has many names in the Bible, as we just read in Revelation 20. God in one verse called him “the dragon,” “that old serpent,” “the Devil,” and “Satan,” and yet those are not all of his names. Satan is also the “man of sin” that is mentioned in 2 Thessalonians 2. Satan is the “abomination of desolation” that we read about in Matthew 24. Satan is the “antichrist” that 1 John mentions. It says in 1 John 4:3, speaking of the antichrist:

And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

[/b]It also tells us that the antichrist was “[b]already…in the world” of that day.

This rules out any earthly man or natural man or a man of the world. There is no one who was in the world 2,000 years ago who lived a life and then who could come back into the world. This is not possible with man. God tells us that if we are unsaved and we die, that is it because we cease to be. When anyone dies, “in that very day his thoughts perish,” according to Psalm 146:4. No man is reincarnated as some dream. Nobody comes back into the world.

What this means is that the only individual qualified to be the antichrist is not a man but Satan himself, “the evil spirit.” He was in the Garden of Eden over 13,000 years ago. He was the one in the days of David who “provoked David to number Israel” under God’s allowance, which was many thousands of years from the Garden of Eden or from the creation. He is the one who is in the world during the ministry of the Lord Jesus as Christ went into the wilderness and was “tempted of the devil.”
