The University of Nairobi in Kenya will on 25th September hold a virtual graduation to all its qualified students.

While talking to the media, the university vice chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama noted that the status of coronavirus surge in the country does not allow the university to resume normal face to face operations. However, the vice chancellor assured the public that learning, admissions and graduations will continue being offered online until the virus is contained.

This comes as more than 20 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the university's, campuses among the members of its staff, with at least 4 succumbing to the disease.

Prof. Kiama also advised parents and guardians of students at the university to avail smartphones, laptops or tablets to the students to enable them engange in online learning successfully.

First year students of academic year 2020/2021 will do online orientation and eventually be admitted through the UON virtual platform. The professor said that instructions for the same will be availed to the freshers once the university senate gives a go ahead.

The University of Nairobi is now set for the 63rd graduation ceremony. The leadership of the university announced that the ceremony will be streamed virtually on targeted social media sites at 5.00 a.m. GMT on the 25th of September 2020.
