I walked through the corridor of our 4 room apartment, the building though not completed was fenced round with brick.
My father had done it within 3 weeks when he got his pension, the government had purposely delayed the money since they probably used it for some private expenditures.
My father worked at the administrative cadre of the civil service when i was fourteen (14), he later got fired when he refused to join in a deal He caught the minister in charge of the ministry he served in.

That day he came home rather too early wearing A gloomy face, i was at that time playing street football with some of my friends. But when i saw his facial expressions i had to go and meet him despite protests from my team mates to continue playing.

"Ekaasan sir" i greeted in yoruba as a i collected the ankara bag he was carrying which he responded to with a nod. my father bought the bag when he was to get a cloth material for a relative burial Though the bag was said to be older than me, my mother had made sure she kept the bag neat and ironed .
When we got to the door we met my mother who had earlier gone to the market picking beans,"ekule ma" i greeted and she replied "ekaabo".
As soon as we got inside, my mother who was following us spoke up.
"daddy temi" she started " shey e mo wipé ricè ti won?"(do you know that rice has gotten expensive?) "mo lîlo latî rà êwa gón" (i even had to buy beans). When she got no reply as my father when he get news like this he would always talk on lenght that the workers are planning to strike or protest, but when she got no reply she probed him again this time touching his arm " daddy tèmi kilo shèle"??
my father then dropped the BOMBSHELL!!!
