History before civilization. The story of Igbo slaves
Long time ago, in the Month of May 1803 75 igbo slaves from the eastern part of Nigeria were captured by the British, remember that the major means of transportation back then was water, so the captors of the Igbo slaves were sailing back to sell the slaves to their masters, the 75 Igbo slaves were chained inside the ship half way into the journey the slaves revolted and took control of the ship, the 75 slaves grounded the ship Dunbar Creek, St Simon island, Glynn Country Georgia.

Instead of submitting to slavery they drowned their captors and started marching in to the water holding hands and singing a native igbo song, while drowning their selves.

Igbos landing.
This historical moment is called the "Igbo landing " and it will be forever remembered as the first freedom match in the history of America. Leave a comment below, like and share with any igbo person you know. Thank you for reading.

Bigwig, wow! Is your wig blocking your vision?

How do people chained inside ship revolt and seize ship in middle of ocean? I think that film Amistad, got you guys incensed and revved up to come up with all kind of scenarios for slaves that if indeed happened would have ended in heavy massacre of the captives. Slave revolts happened on lands. If it happened in boats there is no record of one that was successful or that ended in a take over. Lift up your wig so you can see what you type. God bless! grin

We don't accept stupid historical fiction in Igboland.
The man can not know more about his family than Ngwo people.

So it is not only Ikwerre people that you spew this 'inferiority complex' trash against but even among yourselves bwahahaha!!
Now tell me who is more superior...Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi ....

I am wondering if it makes you guys feel you are winning an argument when you say someone or a group sufers 'inferiority complex' or just a way of hiding your stupidity grin

Every single Igbo clan is superior to Ikwerre bini people.
We all speak Igbo our language and are not so brain dead as to throw away our language for that of another person like brain dead Ikwerre ancestors did.

What form of inferiority complex is worse than the one your ancestors suffered that made them abandone your Bini language for Igbo language without coercion from Ndiigbo?
Such type of inferiority complex is unprecedented in history.
Your Bini ancestors set a world record in inferiority complex. Even small Ogoni retained their language despite being Igbo neighbours.

Shame on Ikwerre binis.

Of course, I know what I am proposing is near impossible, if not impossible.
But if they will ever want to be identified with Igbos again, that is what they will have to do. It is easy to destroy but more difficult to rebuild.

That is the eye of the needle that they will have to go through, to be accepted again.

You know how the world is. Today Igbos are the second-class citizens in Nigeria. Tomorrow they may be the first-class citizens. That is when they may start making moves to rejoin, but they will have to go through that process, otherwise they should be satisfied being a separate ethnic group.

We are very satisfied being who we are and retaining our ancestral history

Its not what you say that accounts. History has a louder voice and speaks more credibly that you do.

Delta State history records them as a Yoruba settlement.

Change history if you are upset with this reality. grin

Press Statement
BRACED Union Counters Amaechi's Claim That Ikwerres Are Igbos
The BRACED Union, an umbrella group of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Cross River, Edo and Delta States of the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria has countered the claim recently made by the Minister of Transport, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi that the people of Ikwerre in Rivers State are Igbos by origin.
The group in a statement endorsed by its National President, High Chief Monday Wehere is in sharp disagreement with such assumption by Amaechi, admonishing him not to bring the people of South-South into the unfavourable Nigerian political climate for personal interest.
The statement said that Amaechi in the first instance has no locus standing to speak on behalf of the Ikwerre people or the South-South region. The group believes that Amaechi has not attained that status of a rallying figure no matter the level he has climbed to in politics.
According to the statement, "History has it that in the early nineties, the white man was looking for labourers and so they approached the Ikwerres and their surrounding neighbours of Kalabari, Okrika and Eleme who flatly refused them for labour. The white man therefore, penetrated the Igbo hinterlands and recruited very willing labourers. And that was the beginning of the Igbo man's adventure in Ikwerre land. However, the administrative arrangements of the white man wrongly posited the Ikwerre and other peoples of Southern Nigeria into the Eastern region, largely dominated by the Igbos.
"So to now claim that the Ikwerres are Igbos because of communal proximity and mix-up is an aberration. As an Ikwerre man, that statement was least expected from Rotimi Amaechi who should know better where the Ikwerre man stands in terms of origin and root. But in case he doesn't know or pretends not to know, he should consult history gurus from Ikwerre rather than throwing up political tantrums to score a cheap one", the statement read in parts.
In addition, the group insisted that as the mouthpiece of the South-South people in terms of advocacy for cultural renaissance, progressive reorientation, building of capacity for inter-BRACED States economic growth and development, it would continue to speak for and protect the interest of the people of the BRACED States.
"We cannot be hoodwinked by political gimmicks. We know who we are, and we are resolute in achieving our own identity independently", the statement further averred.

And who want you to be Igbos?
