Esports Federation of Nigeria (EFN) has kicked against the alleged move by the ministry of Youth and Sports Development to set up an interim committee to run the Esports following the leadership crisis rocking the federation.

EFN president, Agbor Clinton, while addressing newsmen in Abuja yesterday, insisted his board is recognised by the international body and any interference from the government may attract severe sanction.

He also noted that the esports federation which came into existence in 2017, is fully registered in line with the federal government and Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) directive, adding that an investigative panel should be set up to unravel the leadership crisis in the federation.

“We are calling on the youth and sports loving President Muhammadu Buhari to please call the minister, Sunday Dare to order so that he will not destroy the game in Nigeria”.



“We are the board recognised by the Confederation of Africa Esports Federation with documentation at almost 98.5 percent completed and equally a founding father of the Confederation of West Africa esports,” he said.

Clinton also revealed that the federation has recorded tremendous achievement upon their assumption in 2017, without a single support from the Sports ministry.

“We have 36 states and FCT esports associations across the federation, with over 75 private business names affiliated to the esports federation of Nigeria that are working together as partners in progress in the development of the game”.

Meanwhile, in a swift reaction, the director of grassroots sports development, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, Dr Ademola Are, debunked the allegation, insisting that the Clinton Agbor-led board is illegal.

He said the approval given the board has been withdrawn by the ministry after failed to meet the requirements.

“The Clinton Agbor-led board is illegal. They registered esports Nigeria League as NGO which was earlier approved by the ministry, but after much investigation the approval was withdrawn because the minister, Sunday Dare want the right process to be followed in create the esports federation. We called them for a zoom meeting to bring all the stakeholders together, but the Clinto- led board refused to partake in the process,” Are said.
