Diabetes is a serious disease in which the body cannot properly control the amount of sugar in your blood because it does not have enough insulin.

It is often the main cause of serious diseases like heart failure, cardiovascular diseases like stroke, sexual dysfunction, nephropathy, retinopathy, vascular dysfunction, and different forms of cancer.

Most diabetic patients suffer from non-healing wounds, which leads to Amputation of limbs, hand, and foot. Also, diabetes is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease.

Types of diabetes and description

According to report gotten from health researchers expertise, they have discovered five (4) different types of diabetic conditions.

Below, I will review to you the unknown types of diabetes and the difference among them.

1: Type 1 diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is one of the popular type of diabetes worldwide, it is the type that 20% of individuals are suffering from.

This is the type of diabetes caused due to insufficient production of insulin by the pancreas cells. Pancreas is a large gland of the body, located near the stomach, that has the responsibility of producing insulin and other substances that helps the body to digest food.

The pancreas gland is made up cells called beta cells that produces the insulin ( a substance used by the body to transfer blood sugar to the specialized cells that converts glucose into energy). Body cells use them as fuel and also enables cells to use that glucose to produce energy.

2: Type 2 diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is the most popular  type among others. In other words, about 85%-90% of diabetic patients suffer from it.

Type 2 diabetes is the type caused due to resistance of produced insulin to the body cells that uses them. In other words, the body cells that transforms the blood sugar is unable to manage the insulin produced by the beta cells. It is also called "insulin resistance".

3: Gestational diabetes

This is type of diabetes that develops during pregnancy. It is usually detected mid-way through the pregnancy at 24-28 weeks

Like the other forms of diabetes, gestational diabetes affects how the body uses sugar (glucose), and causes an increase in blood sugar.

This form of diabetes can affect both the pregnancy and the health of the baby. Certain hormones formed in the placenta help with the fetus’s development, will block the insulin that is formed in the mother’s body. This restricts the amount of insulin that the mother receives.

Excess blood glucose from the mother is then given to the fetus, and causes the fetus’s blood glucose levels to increase. In this case, the excess blood glucose is stored as fat and causes health issues for the fetus.

4: Mutational diabetes

Mutation is a permanent change in hereditary material that involves either a change in chromosome structure or number as in deletion, duplication etc but very rare.

As you have read above, these are the top 4 forms of diabetes that are reported by health scientists.
