A human right organization, Nigeria Peace Advocacy Group (NPAG), has said that, the review of the Land Use Charge by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is a challenge to all trade unions that have one thing or the other to do with the economy of Lagos State and beyond.

The group in a statement signed by its Leader Comrade Omolola Olukayode stressed the need for other economic sectors of the state like the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Road Transport Employee Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and others to rise up and compliment Sanwo-Olu’s efforts at subduing the suffering of the masses through his new policy.

The group in a statement made available to worldtopnewsng.com explained that all other sectors can complement by collaborating with price control agencies to work out the actual production costs of essential like housing and transport worth with a view to cutting down the suffocating exorbitant prices the end-users are forced to cough out.

According to the group, giving an example, the right organization said, “if the cost of fuel a commercial bus (Danfo) would use between Iyana Ipaja and Oshodi carrying 12 passengers, the cost of the tears and wears on the vehicle is calculated, a reasonable amount the commuters would pay would be affordable.”

In that wise, the group said the benefit of what Sanwo-Olu did with the review of the Land Use Charge would percolate down to other commodities like the farm products coming to the urban market from the rural suburb, saying, the reduction in the transport fares would positively rob off on the prices of foodstuff like yam, rice, yam powder, garri and soup ingredients like pepper, okra, tomato and the likes.

The statement further reminded that, governance is a collective responsibility of all and sundry is a system that gives all well-meaning individuals avenues to contribute their quotas to the progress and development of the state, saying, “kudos to Sanwo-Olu for laying a solid template for good governance through which the masses can participate.”
