BATTERY CAGE IN POULTRY FARMING
In this topic, I will be giving a brief review of what poultry farming entails, a brief history on its’ origin, then we get down to its importance, its financial benefits to farmers and the use of battery cage in poultry farming.
Poultry farming is a form of animal husbandry with focus on raising of domesticated birds, such as turkeys, ducks, chicken and geese to produce eggs or meat for food. It is an agricultural activity. Chickens raised for consumption are called broilers, while those raised for egg production are called layers. These chickens are mostly farmed in great numbers due to their high demand for consumption.
According to history, poultry farming originated from South East Asia. Charles Darwin believed that present-day hens come from a wild species of fowl known as “Gallus Bankiva”, which originated in a broad area of Asia extending from India to the Philippines, and which was first domesticated 7,000 years ago. he popularity of chicken meat and eggs generated a continuous demand that resulted in the creation of a real industry.
Chicken meat is not subject to any type of religious restrictions, it is healthy and can be produced anywhere. This is why consumption and production of chicken is the highest, higher even than pork. Currently, almost 60,000 million chickens are fattened every year and 4,500 million hens lay more than 300 million dozen eggs a day.

THE POULTRY BATTARY CAGE
Battery cages are a housing system used for various animal production methods, but primarily for egg-laying hens. The name arises from the arrangement of rows and columns of identical cages connected together, in a unit, as in an artillery battery. The battery cage has become very popular due to its numerous benefits, and poultry farmers have shifted their attention to it.
